A Battlefield 6 player says Steam granted them a full refund for the game’s Phantom Edition despite having logged around 470 hours. The unusual refund reportedly came after the player complained about recent playlist changes that removed several modes from standard matchmaking, including King of the Hill, Squad Deathmatch, and Rush.

Reddit user ExplorEverythingOnce says the removal of multiple Battlefield 6 modes pushed them to contact Steam Support. While King of the Hill and Squad Deathmatch had already disappeared from the available playlists, the removal of Rush proved to be the breaking point.
According to the player, Rush was the mode they had spent the most time playing. They contacted Steam Support and explained that several multiplayer options had been taken out nearly a year after Battlefield 6 launched.
The player says they also sent Steam links to EA’s official Battlefield 6 modes page and the latest Community Update. Interestingly, EA’s website still currently lists Rush, Squad Deathmatch, and King of the Hill among the game’s multiplayer modes.
Battlefield Studios has confirmed that recent playlist adjustments were made across regions to improve matchmaking health, queue times, and overall match quality. The developer said the goal was to concentrate players around more active modes while retaining additional flexibility through Portal and Custom Search.
Rush and other affected experiences can therefore still exist through Portal, but their removal from regular matchmaking has frustrated players who primarily relied on those modes.
Steam Apparently Made an Exception to Its Refund Policy
The Reddit user claims the Steam Support agent agreed with their complaint and refunded the full amount paid for the Phantom Edition. A screenshot shared by the player shows a Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition refund for $109.24.
Even though that was far outside Steam’s standard refund window, which covers games owned for fewer than 14 days with less than two hours played, Valve explicitly says users outside those rules can still submit a request for individual review.
