Riot has unveiled the upcoming Xerath skin, Astronaut Xerath, which will release in patch 13.4.
Since League of Legends‘ release, Riot has released countless cosmetics in the game. They often time follow a theme to make them unique. One of the older skin that follows a fun sci-fi theme is the Astronaut skin line.
The Astronaut skin line debuted in 2010 with the release of Astronaut Teemo. And almost a decade later, Riot brought back the Astronaut skin line with the release of Astronaut Bard, Astronaut Gnar, and Astronaut Poppy. Because of their popularity, Riot released a new iteration of the Astronaut skins the following year, which featured Corki, Veigar, Rammus, and Maokai skins.
Though most players enjoyed the skins, Riot did not release any astronaut skins in 2022. However, they revealed a new set of Astronaut skins for 2023. In total, we will be receiving 5 new Astronaut skins this year. And one of the skins is Astronaut Xerath.
Xerath is an artillery mage champion released in 2011. Moreover, he can be played in both mid and support. While Riot is aiming to release the Astronaut skins for more niche champions, Xerath actually has a decent size player base. Additionally, many high-level mage players would rather play Xerath because of his versatility in a team comp.
Although Xerath was released in 2011, he only has 6 skins. And the reason for that is his unique design and model. It is hard to make skins for Xerath. And the skins that look good for him still are clunky compared to other skins. Truthfully, Xerath is one of the champions who need an ASU.
