Amazon Games has confirmed that its massively multiplayer online role-playing game New World: Aeternum will be officially taken offline on January 31, 2027. The announcement comes after the game was removed from digital storefronts on January 15, 2026, marking the beginning of the end for a title that captured a large audience with its addictive combat and vibrant open world.
Final Shutdown Date for New World: Aeternum
In a statement posted on the official New World: Aeternum website, Amazon Games outlined the timeline for the game’s sunset. Players who already own the game on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S will continue to have access to its servers through January 31, 2027. After that date, the servers will be permanently shut down, and no one will be able to access the world of Aeternum. The delisting from storefronts means new players can no longer purchase the title, though current owners can still play until the closure.
Why Amazon Games Is Ending Support
The decision to wind down New World: Aeternum follows a broader shift in Amazon’s gaming strategy. Earlier announcements revealed that no new content will be released past the Nighthaven seasonal update, and the studio responsible for ongoing development was significantly impacted by layoffs in late 2025. As a result, development ceased, and the MMO’s future was cast into uncertainty before the official shutdown date was set.
Last-Minute Offers to Save It
Fans of New World: Aeternum have expressed heartbreak and frustration across social media channels as the shutdown news spread. Many players recall the game’s peak popularity during its 2024 relaunch, when concurrent player counts on Steam topped over 913,000, and lamented the title’s rapid decline after content updates stopped. In a surprising twist, Facepunch Studios’ Chief Operations Officer publicly offered $25 million to buy and preserve the MMO, suggesting community-run servers could keep the world alive. Amazon Games has not responded to that offer at the time of writing.
What Players Can Expect Before Servers Go Offline
Even with the shutdown looming, Amazon has promised to maintain server stability and monitor bugs to ensure players can enjoy the remaining time with New World: Aeternum. The current seasonal content will continue until the servers are switched off, and in-game purchases like Marks of Fortune will remain available until July 20, 2026, though refunds will not be offered for these items.
As the MMO prepares for its farewell chapter, players are encouraged to make the most of their final adventures in Aeternum before January 31, 2027.
