As Viktor is getting a massive VGU, here are all of the changes coming with his rework.
League of Legends was released over 15 years ago. The thing that made this game stand out compared to its competitors was the unique playable champions. One of the champions who was released in the early years was Viktor.
Viktor was released back in 2011. And the thing that made him unique compared to other mages was his evolution mechanic. Basically, he would spawn with an item called Prototype Hex Core and when Viktor upgrades the item, he could evolve one of his basic abilities. Since his release, he had the same mechanic till preseason 11. In that preseason, the Hex Core mechanic was removed and replaced with Hex Fragments. Now he can upgrade his abilities just from the Hex Fragment stacks.
Even though Viktor was never in a bad state, he was also never a top mage in the game. Though he still had a sizable following and always kept up with the meta. Though his visuals aren’t bad compared to many champions, he still needed a lot of tweaks. And with the release of Arcane, Riot found a perfect opportunity to give him some much-needed rework.
Recently, Riot fully announced his VGU and he is now fully playable in the PBE. Here are all of the Victor VGU changes coming in patch 14.24.

League of Legends Patch 14.24: Viktor VGU Changes
- E renamed from Death Ray to Hextech Ray
- R renamed from Chaos Storm to Arcane Storm
- R evolve now increases size by 40% and extends duration by 3 seconds per champ damaged by the storm that dies.
Even though Viktor is getting an overhaul in terms of design and lore, his gameplay is not getting that big of a change. The only things that are getting changed are the names of his E and R.
Besides that, his evolved R now increases in size after every kill in that storm. Besides that nothing else has been changed. However, we should expect some changes soon as 2025 season 1 rolls around.
Release Date
Viktor VGU will be released on patch 14.24, scheduled for Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
