Metroid Dread is a Nintendo-exclusive action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD. In Metroid Dread, players get to play as the bounty hunter named Samus Aran as she faces a robotic enemy on the planet ZDR. There are a lot of different powerups in Metroid Dread, Missile Tanks being one of them.

Missile Tanks and Missile+ Tanks are power-ups that increase the maximum capacity of missiles that Samus can hold. To elaborate, the Missile Tanks increase Samus’ missile holding capacity by 2 while the Missile Tank+ offers a whopping 10 additional missiles. In this guide, we will be providing a list of all Missile Tank Locations, along with the abilities you’ll need, as well as how to reach them.

Locations of All Missile Tank in Metroid Dread

Location 1: Artaria

This area has a total of 23 Missile Tanks (2 of which are Missile+ Tanks).

Missile Tank #1

  • Required Abilities:
    • None

This is the very first missile that can be found in Artaria and does not require any special abilities. Just destroy the fake block hidden in the corner at the very top of the cave system to reveal the path.

Missile Tank #2

  • Required Abilities:
    • None

This is the second missile that can be found in Artaria which does not require any special abilities and can be found after you finish your introductory E.M.M.I battle. Just walk towards the locked presence door.

Missile Tank #3

  • Required Abilities:
    • None

This missile tank can be found after a fight with a crab monster. Go through the door to spot the upgrade just behind a waterfall.

Missile Tank #4

  • Required Abilities:
    • Charge Beam

You can find the Missile Tank at the northeastern Network Station of Artaria. This tank requires the Charge Beam upgrade. Go through the top-right door in the save room and then slide under the block to get the upgrade.

Missile Tank #5

  • Required Abilities:
    • Spider Magnet

Use the Spider Magnet you have taken from your first proper E.M.M.I encounter by climbing the magnet pad in the area located below and shooting the blocks to get this upgrade.

Missile Tank #6

  • Required Abilities:
    • Spider Magnet
    • Varia Suit

You’ll find this next tank almost immediately towards the far east of Artaria’s map after taking an elevator from Cataris. Ride the magnet pad by grabbing onto the moving magnetic strip on the ceiling across the room and counter the enemies along the way. Then, all you need to do is to jump off right on top of the upgrade.

  • Required Abilities:
    • Spider Magnet
    • Charge Beam
    • Varia Suit

This can be found in the room left to the tank location mentioned just before. In order to reach the upgrade, jump and grab onto the magnetic pad and counter the enemies to avoid falling into the lava.

Missile Tank #8

  • Required Abilities:
    • None

In order to get this upgrade, keep heading west of where you found the last Missile Tank. Fire a missile at the alcove in the wall to reveal the hidden Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #9

  • Required Abilities:
    • None

Keep heading west to reach the location marked on the map above. Destroy the fake blocks blocking the way of the upgrade.

Missile Tank #10

  • Required Abilities:
    • Space Jump
    • Or Bomb and Morph Ball

Keep Get this Missile Tank by using Space Jump after returning from Ferenia or bomb the obstacle and roll your way towards the prize.

Missile Tank #11

  • Required Abilities:
    • Gravity Suit

This one is pretty straightforward. After returning to Artaria from Burenia with the Gravity Suit, follow the path straight and jump to the platform.

Missile Tank #12

  • Required Abilities:
    • Gravity Suit

This one is pretty easy to find as well. It can be found in the room close by to the previous location, after the Chozo Soldier boss battle.

Missile Tank #13

  • Required Abilities:
    • Speed Booster

To reach this Missile Tank, you need to run down the sloped icy corridor to the right that leads to the location shown in the map above. Clear away overhanging rock with missiles and kill enemies in order to give yourself space, get up to speed and then slide into the blocks at the very end of the right-hand side of the area. Use your scanner to detect the hidden blocks to make this all easier. Once you’ve successfully done this you’ll slide right through into a tiny space where your tank awaits.

  • Required Abilities:
    • Bomb
    • Space Jump

Use Space Jump to reach the ledge and bomb the block to find this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #15

  • Required Abilities:
    • Grapple Beam

Available after getting the Grapple Beam and returning to Artaria’s now green E.M.M.I zone. Pull the platform up, slide down the slope slightly before jumping to reach it.

Missile Tank #16

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Super Missile
    • Bomb

Scan your surroundings in order to reveal the two bomb blocks that are obstructing your way to the upgrade. Open the Super Missile Cover and use Bombs on the two blocks above, then go through the opening with Morph Ball.

Missile Tank #17 [Missle+ Tank]

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Varia Suit

This Missile Tank is one of the special Missle+ Tanks that can be found in a red hot area of Artaria, right up the top of the map, as shown above. With the Varia Suit, use the Morph Ball to go into the lava and get the item and back out. Note that lava will still do damage.

Missile Tank #18

  • Required Abilities:
    • Screw Attack

This Missile tank requires the Screw Attack upgrade to smash through the blocks keeping it trapped in the easternmost tip of the map.

Missile Tank #19

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball

After obtaining the Morph ball, roll underwater to get the item.

Missile Tank #20

  • Required Abilities:
    • Speed Booster

Use the Speed Booster to break the blocks, then shoot the floor blocks and jump down to get this item.

Missile Tank #21

  • Required Abilities:
    • Bomb
    • Diffusion Beam

After melting frozen Artaria, go back to the room that had frozen over. Bomb the floor, and use the Diffusion Beam on the wall to find the next missile upgrade.

Missile Tank #22

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Speed Booster

As shown in the gif above, use the Speed booster in the hallway and run right down that long corridor, charge your speed boost. Store a Shinespark, shoot the Beam Block and crawl in the hole. Release the Shinespark while aiming left and keep holding left until you break all the blocks.

Missile Tank #23 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Abilities:
    • Speed Booster

This is also another Missle+ Tank you can find in Artaria. In order to obtain the upgrade, charge your Shinespark at the hallway below. Once charged, jump up and turn into a morph ball. Activate your Shinespark going to the right to access the Missile+ Tank.

Location 2: Cataris

This area has a total of 15 Missile Tanks (1 of which is a Missile+ Tank).

Missile Tank #1 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball

In order to grab this Missile Tank+ upgrade have a look at the map of Cataris above and make your way to the location, it’s not too far away from where you’ll have unlocked the Morph Ball. Once there you’ll do a little bit of maneuvering around to make your way up the little maze area and get your hands on your prize.

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Space Jump

Use Space Jump to clear reach the ledge, then use Morph Ball to crawl through the opening and nab your next upgrade.

Missile Tank #3

  • Required Abilities:
    • Charge Beam
    • Morph Ball

For obtaining this upgrade, you’ll need to head right over to the far east of the map as indicated in the map above. Open the Charge Beam Door and hop up through the gap using the Morph Ball.

Missile Tank #4

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball

Head south to below the South Eastern Network Station in Cataris, as indicated on the map above. There are a few little Morph Ball spots to enter to reach this snug little area, none of which are hard to find. Once you’ve got the tank, explode the wall to the right of it to open up a nice shortcut for later travels.

  • Required Abilities:
    • Charge Beam
    • Varia Suit

Use the Varia Suit to enter the hot area indicated above. Then proceed to make your way across the room’s platforms, open the Charge Beam Door and continue to the right. Do a wall jump to reach the next upgrade.

Missile Tank #6

  • Required Abilities:
    • Spider Magnet
    • Morph Ball

In order to get this Missile Tank, you will need to climb onto the Magnetic ceiling and then shoot a Missile at the wall as shown in the map above. But be sure to work fast and nab the prize before the blocks regenerate.

Missile Tank #7

  • Required Abilities:
    • Varia Suit
    • Morph Ball
    • Diffusion Beam

In order to get this Missile Tank, you’ll need your Varia suit for entering the hot area. Break the blocks in the room before with the Diffusion Beam, then roll through with the Morph Ball.

Missile Tank #8

  • Required Abilities:
    • Speed Booster
    • Screw Attack

You will need to use the Screw Attack to break the blocks then speed boost into the wall and make a little jump just as you’re about to hit the top of it. Start your run where we’ve placed the yellow marker on our map and smash through the wall where you see Samus reveal this well-hidden upgrade.

Missile Tank #9

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Varia Suit
    • Bomb
    • Space Jump

You will need use Space Jump to reach the top of the room and bomb the wall. Then, drop down and use another bomb to grab this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #10

  • Required Abilities:
    • Wide Beam
    • Morph Ball
    • Varia Suit
    • Bomb

To get this ugrade, hit the Wide Beam Block out of the way, then use Bombs to break the Bomb Blocks in the floor. Shoot the Beam Block out of the way, and you’ll reach your Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #11

  • Required Abilities:
    • Speed Booster
    • Gravity Suit

In order to reach this upgrade, start at the left wall, then shoot the Beam Blocks out of the way, and use the Speed Booster to start running. Slide under the platform and break the wall to get this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #12

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Gravity Suit

In the very south west of the map you’ll need your Gravity Suit once again to take a dip in the lava and shoot this tank upgrade out from it’s hiding spot as shown above.

Missile Tank #13

  • Required Abilities:
    • Gravity Suit
    • Spider Magnet
    • Morph Ball
    • Varia Suit

There’s two ways you can go about snatching this upgrade. If you go through the lava, you will need your Gravity Suit once again to take a dip in the lava and shoot this tank upgrade out from it’s hiding spot as shown above. For the second method, do not go through the lava. Instead, jump up the side of the wall and cling to the sides of the divets. Shoot the blocks from the magnetic strip and use the Morph Ball to get the item.

Missile Tank #14

  • Required Abilities:
    • Flash Shift
    • Speed Booster
    • Space Jump

You will need to store your Shinespark as you make your way near under the Speed Boost Blocks to launch yourself diagonally. Remember to use Flash Shift to cut down time.

Missile Tank #15

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Varia Suit
    • Bomb
    • Space Jump

Use Space Jump to reach the top of the room and bomb the wall. Drop down and use another bomb to grab this Missile Tank.

Location 3: Dairon

This area has a total of 12 Missile Tanks (1 of which is a Missile+ Tank).

Missile Tank #1

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Bomb

This Missile Tank can be found shortly after nabbing the Morph Ball Bomb power-up on your second trip to this area of the game. As shown in the map above, you’ll drop down through the floor of the statue room where you acquired your bomb skill and continue to head down through floors that you explode until you reach the room in the pic for an easy grab of this upgrade.

  • Required Ability:
    • Morph Ball

Shoot the ceiling to reveal this Missile Tank. You can also use Bombs on the floor in the room above and use the Grapple Beam, but it is not required.

Missile Tank #3

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Speed Booster

Use the Speed Booster to break throught he Speed Booster Block. The Missile Tank is in the next room in a Morph Ball-sized hole.

Missile Tank #4

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Speed Booster

Make your way out to the extreme west of the map to the Dairon’s save room. Just outside the save room you’ll see a Morph Ball launcher which is blinking in your map – indicating a secret is around. What you need to do now is fire off some Morph Ball bombs into the wall facing the save room, the one right at the launcher, to uncover the little area pictured below to grab our next Missile Tank.

  • Required Ability:
    • Speed Booster

After getting the Speed Booster, perform a Shinespark in this location.

Missile Tank #6

  • Required Ability:
    • Grapple Beam

In Dairon at the bottom east elevator entrance from Artaria you’ll enter a large room that you may have visited before. From the upper left side of the room, use the Grapple Beam to reach this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #7

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Gravity Suit

After arriving in Diaron from the Elevator leading to Ghavoran, go staight and there will be a Missile Tank in a room with extreme cold.

Missile Tank #8 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Ability:
    • Speed Booster

Start from behind the EMMI Door just before the Ammo Recharge Station. Use the Speed Booster to perform a series of wall jumps to get this Missile+ Tank.

Missile Tank #9

  • Required Ability:
    • Cross Bomb

Use Cross Bombs to break the first block, then shoot four missiles to clear the way. Hop over and position youreslf at the right edge before using another Cross Bomb to launch yourself to the other side before the blocks regenerate.

Missile Tank #10

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Space Jump
    • Gravity Suit

Space Jump to the upper right corner of the room and use the Grapple Beam to clear the way. Turn into a Morph Ball to get this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #11

  • Required Abilities:
    • Speed Booster
    • Gravity Suit

Access this area by destroying the Beem Blocks in the floor of the room with the Energy Part above lava. Continue down to the long room full of lava and use the Speed Booster to break the right wall to find a Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #12

  • Required Abilities:
    • Speed Booster
    • Gravity Suit
    • Screw Attack

Use the Speed Booster starting from the patch of ice and store a Shinespark. Jump up to the ledge and use the Shinespark to destroy the wall. Next Use the Screw Attack in to break the blocks in the lower left corner of the area you just opend up and drop down. Use the Speed Booster again to break the left wall to find this Missile Tank.

Location 4: Burenia

This area has a total of 12 Missile Tanks (4 of which are Missile+ Tanks).

Missile Tank #1

  • Required Ability:
    • Flash Shift
    • Morph Ball

Once you’ve got the Flash Shift, head to the location on the map above, which is just north of where you grabbed your new ability. Once here you’re going to need to blow up some wall in the upper right hand corner where the tank is trapped – as pictured above. Jump up into the cleared space and roll across it dropping bombs, you’ll now find yourself dropped out into the water below. Now jump onto the area facing the hole you’ve made – which is filled with missile blocks, take these out quickly then run and jump and roll through before they materialize

  • Required Abilities:
    • None

After the path leading upwards is opened in Burenia, on the top right side of the object in the middle is a block hiding a Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #3 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Abilities:
    • None

In the underwater section of Burenia, drop down and hold left to fall directly onto this Missile+ Tank.

Missile Tank #4

  • Required Ability:
    • Morph Ball

Another Missile Tank close to where you found the last one in Burenia, this one requires a pulse of the area detailed in the pic below and some Morph Ball action to get down to the small space it is nestled in.

Missile Tank #5

  • Required Ability:
    • Screw Attack

Use the Screw Attack to break the blocks and reach the Missle Tank.

Missile Tank #6 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Ability:
    • Screw Attack

This Missile+ Tank can be found right beside the last one. Use the Screw Attack to break the blocks and reach the Missle+ Tank.

Missile Tank #7

  • Required Ability:
    • Gravity Suit

Use the Gravity Suit to jump high enough out of the water to get this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #8 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Ability:
    • Spider Magnet
    • Flash Shift

Use Spider Magnet to grab the wall, then use Flash Shift to cling on to the side of the block that the Shutter would close on. Shoot the top block on the other side and hop over to get this Missile Tank+.

Missile Tank #9

  • Required Ability:
    • Speed Booster
    • Gravity Suit

With the Gravity Suit, go to the underwater section and run until you can store a Shinespark by tilting the stick down. Reposition to the middle and unleash the Shinespark to get this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #10

  • Required Ability:
    • None

In the top left corner of this room where you’ll face off against Twin Robot Chozo Soldiers, scan for hidden block and shoot it with a Missle to reveal the upgrade.

Missile Tank #11

  • Required Ability:
    • Grapple Beam

Use the Grapple Beam to reach the magnetic strip on the ceiling and hop over to the item.

Missile Tank #12 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Ability:
    • Speed Booster

This is a Shinespark Puzzle. From the room with the energy part, run through the door and store a Shinespark. Head down to the next room and shoot the beam block as you’re falling. Activate the Shinespark midair to hit the wall, and continue running. Charge your Shinespark before you fall, and then activate it again to hit the ramp. Store your Shinespark when you get over the ramp and activate it again against the Speed Booster Blocks.

Location 5: Ghavoran

This area has a total of 11 Missile Tanks (1 of which is a Missile+ Tank).

  • Required Ability:
    • Grapple Beam

Use the Grapple Beam to swing from the Grapple Swing Points to get this upgrade.

Missile Tank #2

  • Required Ability:
    • Grapple Beam

Head straight right to the location pinpointed on the map and use the Grapple Beam to get this upgrade.

Missile Tank #3

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Bomb

Found after using the Orange Teleportal from Cataris to arrive in Ghavoran.

Missile Tank #4

  • Required Ability:
    • Morph Ball
    • Cross Bomb

This Missile Tank upgrade can be found right after you battle the boss, Golzuna. Exit the arena and scan your surroundings to reveal blocks in the bottom right corner of the next room, use your bombs to get in there and reveal this next upgrade.

  • Required Ability:
    • Space Jump

Use your Space Jump skills to juggle yourself upwards in the area pictured above until you see the target Missile Tank on the left hand side waiting in a slanted vent. Simply juggle up there and grab the ledge then roll in for an easy win.

Missile Tank #6

  • Required Ability:
    • Cross Bomb

Use a Cross Bomb to propel yourself over the Pitfall Blocks and nab your upgrade.

Missile Tank #7

  • Required Ability:
    • Storm Missile

Use Stom Missile in the room below to remove the Storm Missile Box to get this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #8 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Ability:
    • Spin Boost

Jump up to the upper right corner of the previous room with Spin Boost to get this Missile+ Tank.

Missile Tank #9

  • Required Ability:
    • Gravity Suit

Use the Gravity Suit to jump high enough to reach the ledge.

Missile Tank #10

  • Required Ability:
    • Speed Booster
    • Space Jump

From the elevator room to Elun use the speed booster. As soon as you enter the next room use Space Jump. Destroy the blocks to get this Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #11

  • Required Ability:
    • Morph Ball

Use the Gravity Suit to jump out of the water and land on the ledge. Bomb the blocks and grab the ledge. Next use a Cross Bomb to launch yourself forward.

Location 6: Ferenia

This area has a total of 8 Missile Tanks (2 of which are Missile+ Tanks).

Missile Tank #1

  • Required Ability:
    • None

Our first Missile Tank on Ferenia is found in the location on the map above, very near to where you will fight the area’s boss, Escue. It’s an easy one to nab, requiring only a single missile shot right up into the right hand corner of the room as shown in the picture above.

Missile Tank #2

  • Required Abilities:
    • Cross Bomb

Use the Cross Bomb to perform several bomb jumps to break the blocks and propel yourself up to the ledge.

Missile Tank #3

  • Required Abilities:
    • Cross Bomb
    • Space Jump

To access this room, use a Cross Bomb in mid air while dropping into the water. Use Space Jump to reach the Missile Tank.

Missile Tank #4

  • Required Ability:
    • None

Get this Missile Tank by warping to the Cyan Teleportal in Ferenia.

Missile Tank #5

  • Required Ability:
    • None

This one requires you to enter the room in the map as shown above, drop to the platform underneath the missile tank and then power bomb the room so you can jump up, roll in and grab it.

Missile Tank #6 [Missile+ Tank]

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Speed Booster
    • Cross Bomb

This is a Shinespark Puzzle. Run from the room on the right and store a Shinespark shortly after you enter the next room. Jump up, shoot the blocks, and shift into Morph Ball. Lay a cross bomb to clear the gap and another to break the blocks. Immediately activate your Shinespark before the Cross Bomb detonates.

Missile Tank #7 [Missile+Tank]

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Speed Booster

Start at the left wall of the room with the elevator to Dairon and run through the doorway. Just before hitting the wall of the next room, store a Shinespark. Jump up to the ledge, quickly shoot the Beam Blocks, and slide through. Activate your Shinespark mid air directing it to the right to get this Missile+ Tank.

Missile Tank #8

  • Required Abilities:
    • Charge Beam
    • Morph Ball
    • Speed Booster
    • Grapple Beam
    • Gravity Suit

From the upper left room, run through the door to store a Shinespark. Just before hitting the wall, with a stored Shinespark, change into a Morph Ball and Shinespark into the first set of blocks. Shoot the floor blocks and Grapple Beam the way open to the second set of blocks. Repeat the process, but after charging the Shinespark, slide through the opening and do a Screw Attack to drop down. Climb in the opening and release the Shinespark to reach the item.

Location 7: Elun

This area has total 2 Missile Tanks.

Missile Tank #1

  • Required Abilities:
    • Morph Ball
    • Space Jump
    • Power Bomb

Follow the Morph Ball maze and use Bombs to open the way forward. Use a Power Bomb to destroy a block and use Space Jump to reach the ledge.

Missile Tank #2

  • Required Ability:
    • Speed Booster

Charge up a Shinespark with the fan, go down and use it to break the blocks in the ceiling.

Location 8: Hanubia

This area has total 2 Missile Tanks.

Missile Tank #1

  • Required Ability:
    • None

This Missile Tank on Hanubia is located up and out of one of the shattered glass tunnels in the area, which you can explode to clamber out of using your Power Bomb. Once out head to the area marked in the map above and then use a missile to break the block that’s hiding the upgrade.

Missile Tank #2

  • Required Ability:
    • Cross Bomb

Use Cross Bombs to break the blocks in the wall.
