The Play-ins

Starting with the play-ins, we have two groups in the play-ins made out of 5 teams in each group. The groups are as follows:

Group A

  • Hanwha Life Esports (LCK 4th Seed)
  • LNG Esports (LPL 4th Seed)
  • Infinity Esports (LLA)
  • Peace (LCO)
  • RED Canids (CBLOL)

Group B

  • Beyond Gaming (PCS 2nd Seed)
  • Cloud9 (LCS 3rd Seed)
  • Unicorns of Love (LCL)
  • Galatasaray Esports (TCL)
  • Detonation FocusMe (LJL)

Group Stages

The group stages went off with a banger with DK and FPX in one groups. Regardless, there are the groups for the Group Stages.

Group A

  • DAMWON KIA (LCK 1st Seed)
  • FunPlus Phoenix (LPL 2nd Seed)
  • Rogue (LEC 3rd Seed)
  • TBD

Group B

  • EDward Gaming (LPL 1st Seed)
  • 100 Thieves (LCS 1st Seed)
  • T1 (LCK 3rd Seed)
  • TBD

Group C

  • PSG.Talon (PCS 1st Seed)
  • Fnatic (LEC 2nd Seed)
  • Royal Never Give Up (LPL 3rd Seed)
  • TBD

Group D

  • MAD Lions (LEC 1st Seed)
  • Gen.G (LCK 2nd Seed)
  • Team Liquid (LCS 2nd Seed)
  • TBD

Group A definitely jumps out as Rogue got the short straw in that group. Regardless, that is what the groups we ended up with.

Initial Thoughts

For the play-ins, HLE and LNG being in one group is going to be a lot of fireworks especially since the top team directly goes to the Groups Stages. Group B looks very open in the play-ins and anyone could advance.

In group stages, Group A definitely looks like the group of death. Meanwhile, Group C looks like any team could go through in that group and Group B and D look standard given previous Worlds.

With that said, those are the groups for Worlds 2021, and we will analyze them in more detail as we get closer to Worlds 2021 as it kicks off in October 5th with the Play-ins.
