If you’re wondering why you still can’t fly, this guide explains the exact quest and pendant you must complete before flight becomes available.

Flying (or “Lightness Skill Flight”) is one of the most exciting traversal abilities in Where Winds Meet, letting you glide across valleys, leap from mountain peaks, and explore the world with true Wuxia freedom.
But unlike most open-world games, Where Winds Meet does not give you flight automatically. Instead, you must complete a specific questline and earn a regional permit before you can glide freely.

How to Unlock Flight in Where Winds Meet

To unlock flight in the Qinghe region (the first area where flight becomes available), you must complete two requirements:

  1. Finish the “Afterglow” quest—unlocks the Meteor Flight Lightness Skill
  2. Earn the Afterglow Pendant—the regional permit that allows you to use the skill

Here’s the step-by-step breakdown:

Step 1: Start the “Afterglow” Side Quest

  • Open your Jianghu Legacy tab in the Journal.
  • Select the quest Afterglow.
  • Travel to the quest marker near Qinghe.
  • Speak with Qiu Yuehai, the fisherman NPC who gives you the movement trial.

The fisherman NPC appears near the boundary between Porcelain Kiln and Moonveil Mountain.

Completing this quest unlocks the Meteor Flight Lightness Skill—but you cannot use it freely until you obtain a regional permit.

Step 2: Complete the First Flight Tutorial (Meteor Flight)

Once the quest begins, Qiu Yuehai will teach you Meteor Flight—this is your first gliding tutorial.

To complete it:

  1. Stand on the cliff/high ground.
  2. Jump off the ledge.
  3. Press and hold your jump key mid-air.
  4. Glide to the highlighted landing zone.

This completes the skill unlock, but flight is still restricted in Qinghe.

Step 3: Reach Qinghe Exploration Level 4 (4,000 EXP)

You now need the Afterglow Pendant, which is required to use Lightness Skills in Qinghe.

To earn it, you must reach:

  • Exploration Level 4 in Qinghe (≈4,000 exploration experience)

You gain EXP by:

  • Discovering landmarks.
  • Activating boundary stones.
  • Opening chests.
  • Completing side quests.
  • Collecting oddities.
  • Fighting mini-bosses/encounters.

Once you hit Level 4, open your Qinghe Exploration Rewards screen and claim:

  • Afterglow Pendant

This is your regional flight permit.

Step 4: Return to the Fisherman (Qiu Yuehai)

Now that you have the pendant:

  • Return to the same fisherman NPC
  • Hand over the Afterglow Pendant
  • He activates your flight permissions in Qinghe

This completes the process.

You now have:

  • Meteor Flight unlocked.
  • Afterglow Pendant activated.
  • Flight is enabled in Qinghe.

You can now fly freely in the region.

How to Fly (After Unlocking)

Once everything is unlocked:

  1. Equip Meteor Flight (or any Lightness Skill).
  2. Jump from any elevated position.
  3. Hold the jump key to begin flight.
  4. Use movement to control direction.
  5. Monitor your stamina bar—flight drains stamina.
  6. Land safely by letting go of the glide just before touching the ground.

Different lightness skills offer different animations and speeds, but the core mechanic remains the same.

Other Lightness Skills You Can Unlock Later

These unlock through exploration, level rewards, or other regional permits:

  • Thousand-Mile Flight.
  • Fan Glider.
  • Wind Rider.
  • Advanced Movement Skills (leaps, air-dashes, double-jumps).

All require the regional permit of whichever map zone you’re in.
