One of the biggest RPGs developed by Bethesda will be released for PlayStation 5 sometime later in 2024.
Starfield is an action role-playing game developed and published by Bethesda. The game features a massive open world within the Milky Way galaxy, containing both fictional and non-fictional planetary systems. After being delayed several times, Starfield was released on September 6, 2023, for Xbox Series X/S and Windows PC.
Even though Starfield was one of the biggest titles released in 2023, the game was launched as an Xbox exclusive since Bethesda is owned by Microsoft, leaving PlayStation 5 behind. However, new reports claim that Microsoft is planning to Bethesda’s popular RPG to PlayStation 5 with some additional features later in 2024.

Starfield’s Possible Release on PlayStation 5
According to a new report from XboxEra, an anonymous source claimed that Bethesda and Microsoft are planning to release the popular RPG on Sony’s current generation console. In addition, Microsoft is also planning to bring the previously rumored Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves to PlayStation 5.
XboxEra’s anonymous sources also mentioned that Microsoft is preparing to launch Starfield on PlayStation 5 with the already announced “Shattered Space” expansion for Xbox and PC. The source also stated that Microsoft has made additional investments in PlayStation 5 developer kits to support the ongoing development. Shattered Space expansion was targeted to release for Xbox and PC sometime later this year.
The report stated that the hit titles Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves will be coming to PlayStation, and Hi-Fi Rush could be released as soon as in Q1 2024. The source claimed that Microsoft will publicly announce the game’s arrival on PlayStation 5 later in February 2024.
Releasing Starfield on PlayStation would be a significant change in Microsoft’s business strategy. Sarah Bond, the president of Xbox, previously stated that Starfield was going to be an Xbox exclusive. According to the XboxEra report, some senior employees are not happy with the decision to bring an Xbox exclusive to PlayStation.
Microsoft senior leadership have reportedly debated the various pros and cons of releasing more of their exclusive software elsewhere, and internally, not everyone is necessarily happy with the decision, but recouping the potential money ‘left on the table’ by not releasing elsewhere has arguably won out.
