Starfield has one of the most unique New Game Plus out there. Here, we will explain how the new game plus affects and changes the overall game of Starfield.
Starfield has the players exploring a whole universe by jumping from galaxy to galaxy. The player will be able to land on and explore any planet they can find, provided it is not a star or a gas giant. The game gives a lot of freedom to the players in choosing what they want to be in this vast universe. So, there are a lot of factions to join, with each having their own story and missions.
After the game comes to an end, the player is given the choice to either continue or start a new game plus. Unlike the traditional new game plus, where you keep all your items but start the game new, Starfield changes the meaning of New Game Plus a little. This game’s story is a continuous loop. So if you start a new game plus, that means your character is being reborn in a new universe.
With the story implications of the new game plus, the game also sees various changes. Here we will discuss all the changes you will see in a NG+ Starfield.
All NG+ Changes in Starfield
At the end of the game, you touch infinity and become a being known as Starborn. That means each time you reach infinity, you will be reborn with your previous memory intact in a whole new universe. So when you start a new game, you will keep the XP and Skills you have unlocked. Any progress made towards completing the skill tasks will also carry over into the new game.
However, other than that, nothing else will carry over in this new version of the universe. All the items and credits you have accumulated will be lost. Any starships and bases you have built will also be lost. All the side quests and companion relationships will also be lost in the new game.
While it may seem like a bad thing, it gives the player a clean slate to experience the game in a new way. This time around, maybe you can go on a different route or play to align yourself with different factions without worrying about the choices of the previous playthrough.
Rewards for New Game Plus
While the new game plus will take away all your items, you will also gain two new items when you go to the NG+. One is a legendary spacesuit, and the other is a spaceship. So, you will be able to do things more easily and travel around faster. The dogfight in space will also be durable with your new spaceship from the start of the game.
This is the reward for your first new game. Any other subsequent playthrough does not add any new items or rewards to the game. But the name of your spaceship will change. The spaceship will have a number count at the end of its name, indicating how many playthroughs you have done using NG+.
See Universe Varients
One of the more interesting things about a new game and playthrough is seeing how the new universe differs from the older one. For the first couple of playthroughs, you will see pretty much the same universe. However, after the 5th new game plus, there is a chance you will encounter wild variations like finding yourself in the constellation base, other characters running the base instead of Sarah, and so on.
While running the game up to five times to see some minor changes is tedious, Starfield has a workaround for it. The game asks the player at the start of new game plus if they want to complete the main story again or not. If you choose not to do the main story again, the game will give you all the artifact pieces and you can complete the playthrough within 90 minutes of starting a new game plus. This way, you will be able to keep cycling through the new game plus to see the varient universe for yourself.
