Riot just renamed Grags W from Drunken Rage to Raucous Rage, for some reason.
Over League of Legends‘ decade-old lifespan, there have been quite a number of cases of Riot censoring the game. Most of these cases have been forgotten over the years. However, two of these cases remain so confusing that players will remember them for years.
The first one was the removal of Graves’s cigar. It was originally removed back in 2014 due to age restrictions in some regions, and eventually was brought back in 2017. Now we have, renaming of Gragas W.
Riot in the latest PBE update renamed Gragas W from Drunken Rage to Raucous Rage. Removing signs of being drunk from a character whose whole gimmick is being drunk is quite weird indeed. This led to confusion among players, and they even started speculating why Riot did it.
Many thought that Riot changed the name due to the new Middle East server, as many of the Middle Eastern countries have banned alcohol. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as Riot Meddler, the Head of League Studio, clarified that the change was actually due to European age rating compliance.
Whichever region’s regulations it may be, it’s still censorship, and many are opposed to Riot’s decision. Thus, many are asking that Riot should rename Gragas’s W only in the regions affected by the regulations, while keeping the original name elsewhere.
As of now, the decision to rename Gragas W is final, and whether Riot chooses to reverse it in the future remains entirely up to them.
