All you need to catch your first horse in Red Dead Redemption is some rope.

Red Dead Redemption has finally been released on PC. PC players have been waiting no less than 14 years to get their hands on not just one of the greatest open-world games ever, but one of the greatest games, period.

If you haven’t played this classic before, Red Dead Redemption takes place after Red Dead Redemption 2 and follows John Marston as he tracks down the remaining members of the Van der Linde Gang.

Like its prequel, Red Dead Redemption takes place during the end of the Old West. Lawlessness and outlaws have all but faded as settlements are springing up all over, and new technology is implemented. and the federal government tightened its grip.

However, even with all the new technology, horses are still valuable, serving as your transportation. What’s a cowboy without his horse after all?

There are plenty of wild horses for you to catch and tame all over the West, and in this article, we look at how you can do just that.

Before you can start catching horses, you’ll need to get your hands on a trusty Lasso. You’ll first get a lasso during the mission “Wild Horses, Tamed Passions“. This is the sixth main mission in the game.

To start this mission, you’ll need to have finished “Women and Cattle”, a Bonnie MacFarlane Mission. Afterwards, head to the MacFarlane Ranch to start the mission. This mission also serves as your introduction to catching wild horses.

With the lasso in hand, go out into the plains to find a wild horse. These are horses that do not have a saddle on them.

There are plenty of wild horses roaming around so you shouldn’t have a tough time finding one.

Once you find a horse you like, open the weapon wheel to select a lasso and aim it at the horse the same way you would a gun.

With your lasso aimed at the horse, press the fire button to throw it. You can’t be too far away from the horse, or the lasso won’t reach it.

Once the horse is lassoed, walk up to it and mount it. You can throw your lasso while on another horse, but you’ll have to dismount it to walk up to the wild horse.

Once you mount the horse, it will start moving wildly, and John will wobble left and right. As such, you’ll need to tame the horse.

Use the analog stick (or the A and D buttons if you’re on keyboard) to keep John in the center. If he leans to the left move to the right, but so much that he falls over to the right, and vice versa.

If John leans too much, he’ll fall to the ground, and you’ll fail to tame the horse.
