Rainbow Six Siege, a tactical first-person shooter developed by Ubisoft, has experienced tremendous growth throughout the years that it has existed. The FPS game recently introduced the last season of Year 7 Operation Solar Raid, which managed to generate a lot of hype and get the long-lost Siege players back on the servers.

Lion: the 2-speed, the 2-armor operator, was released during Y3S1 Operation Chimera, alongside Finka. Hailing from France, Lion is a member of the CBRN Threat Unit that tackled the mysterious parasite infection. If you haven’t already unlocked Lion, you can do it now for 10,000 renown or 240 R6 Credits.

Here’s everything you need to know about this operator.

Lion Operator Guide

Biography

“Confusing what is right with what is easy can lead down a dangerous path.”

When Flament’s rebellious antics landed him in hospital, disowned by his family and on the brink of homelessness, he enlisted with the French Armed Forces in an attempt to gain control of his life. Early reports flagged Flament’s skills and aptitude as well-suited for specific training in CBRN. The additional structure and strict discipline of advanced training allowed him to excel and he was quickly recruited into the 2nd Dragoon Regiment, where he worked primarily with their environmental monitoring sensors.

Flament showed a fascination for bacteriology and virology, specifically vector control. Recognizing that his abilities could be better applied elsewhere, he resigned from the army and joined the Gendarmerie, with a view towards the GIGN’s Operational Support Force (FAO). His ability to remain focused and perform precise tasks under stressful conditions caught the attention Specialist Melnikova during a joint mission in Nigeria, who recommended him as a candidate for Rainbow.

“Three of our GIGN Operators – Specialists Emmanuelle “Twitch” Pichon, Gustave “Doc” Kateb, and Flament – are all haunted by a shared tragedy. This friction over Flament quarantining doctors and nurses who later died can’t continue. Joint sessions with Kateb and Flament are already planned. We will resolve this, one way or another.” – Dr. Harishva “Harry” Pandey, Director of Rainbow.

Best Weapon Loadout

  • Primary Weapon: V308 (ASSAULT RIFLE), 417 (MARKSMAN RIFLE), SG-CQB (SHOTGUN)
  • Secondary Weapon: LFP586 (Handgun), GONNE-6 (Hand Cannon)
  • Secondary Gadgets: Stun Grenade, Impact EMP Grenade, Claymore
  • Unique ability: EE-ONE-D

Lion has a wide option for his primary weapon of choice, which includes the V308 Assault Rifle, 417 DMR, and the SG-CQB shotgun. Taking the shotgun will massively limit your long-range gunfight abilities, and picking the DMR will put you at a disadvantage at short ranges. This is why we will highly recommend you pick the V308 over the other options.

There isn’t anything much special about the V308 Assault Rifle. For an AR, it has one of the largest ammo capacities, which can hold 50+1 bullets per magazine. With various scope options, the gun pairs well with Lion’s role as a support. Your best bet would be to take advantage of the big ammo capacity and prefire common angles. We will recommend using a longer-range scope like the 2.0x and equipping the vertical grip. For a more aggressive play style, you can use the angled grip for quicker ADS time.

As his secondary weapon options, Lion has the LFP586 revolver and the Gonne-6. As Lion has enough ammo capacity on the V308 AR, we will suggest bringing the Gonne-6 for more destructive power. The Gonne-6 can prove to be a vital gadget when trying to clear bulletproof defender gadgets such as deployable shields or Maestro’s evil eyes.

Secondary Gadget

Lion is given three choices for his secondary gadget: the Claymore, Stun, and Impact EMP grenades. Now, the choice is completely upon your preference and the game plan for that round. So, check what your teammates need for executing the plan perfectly.

Unique Ability

Lion’s primary gadget is called the EE-ONE-D. The EE-ONE-D is a drone that hovers above the map, waiting to scan enemy movement on Lion’s command. The drone is visible on the map but is non-interactive, so it cannot be shot down or destroyed in any way.

When a scan is initiated by Lion, defenders are given a 1.5-second warning before it begins scanning. Attackers can also see the scan is started, however, the scan itself does not affect them. The detection lasts for 2 seconds in-game. During this time, if any defending player moves, their location will be broadcasted to the attacking team as a ping, similar to being pinged by Alibi’s Prisma gadget when tricked. Ceasing movement after being detected will not stop the pings.

Lion’s gadget will only spot the defenders who move from their initial position during the scan. However, actions such as turning, changing stances, and using gadgets or weapons will not trigger the defender’s location to be spotted.

The EE-ONE-D drone can be used a maximum of 3 times per round, with a 15-second cooldown period in between each use. So Lion has to stay aware and use the scans effectively to clear out roamers or prevent flanks.

Tips and Tricks

(i) Try to avoid scanning at the very start of the round, as you won’t be able to act on them from the spawning site.

(ii) Use the calls just before pushing the site or an enemy to intimidate them from moving and clouding their audio cues.

(iii) Combine Lion with operators like Dokkaebi or Jackal for the most effective roam-clear lineup.

How to counter Lion?

The operators Mute and Vigil have the ability to hard-counter Lion’s EE-ONE-D drone. Within a Mute’s jammers range, defenders can move around freely without being detected by Lion’s scan. It also prevents Lion from activating his ability when he is in range of the jammer.

On the other hand, Vigil’s cloaking device can make him invisible to the drone, allowing him to push and fight back against the attacking team without being detected, giving him the advantage.

Should you pick Lion?

Overall, Lion’s EE-ONE-D drone is a powerful tool for gathering intel and spotting enemies, but it also has its weaknesses and can be countered by the Defenders. It is a versatile gadget that can be used in many ways, which makes Lion a very good pick for the team.
