Riot has announced massive buffs coming to off-meta builds in patch 12.19.

League of Legends is a very diverse game with over 161 different champions and over 200 different items. With so many options, players can build their favorite champion however they want.

Even though players are incentivized to build however they desire, most people agree that there are specific builds everyone should always use to play their favorite champions efficiently. These builds are what most people call Meta builds (Most Effective Tactics Available).

However, players nowadays play more meta builds rather than experimenting with different builds. Because players want to rank up faster, they often never experiment with other builds and runes, making the game stale.

While most people on ranked play with meta builds, many players still experiment with different builds and make them work in the ranked environment. These non-meta/experimental builds are known as off-meta builds, which most people would label as troll builds.

Recently the community of off-meta build users has been increasing rapidly. Alongside the rise of off-meta-focused youtube channels (The most well-known is HappyChimeNoises), many casual players are starting to build off-meta builds in their regular matches. Very recently, an off-meta build dominated both ranked and pro-scene, Janna top with smite. Unfortunately, this off-meta build was so prevalent that Riot had to nerf this playstyle entirely.

Although Riot did nerf some annoying off-meta picks, they still support the idea of off-meta builds. That’s why on Twitter, RiotPhroxzon unveiled the preview for patch 12.19. One of the notable parts they will be buffing is the various off-meta builds.

Off-Meta Builds Buffs Patch 12.19

In the preview post, Riot stated that they would buff various off-meta builds. But they did not say which build specifically. So we can still guess that the builds for Fizz, Udyr, Ryze, Ekko, Jinx, Sona, or Nasus will be buffed.

We can guess that Udyr’s off-meta builds might get a huge buff, especially for top Udyr.

The preview shows that Udyr top will get a massive buff simultaneously. Udyr is mainly a jungle champion, but since his rework, he has been getting a lot of plays in the top lane. But after a couple of his nerfs and adjustment to his kit, he has fallen off from the top lane. But since Riot said they would be buffing more off-meta builds, we can expect more items or champions to be buffed to synergize with each other to increase the variety of this game.
