Buckle up, because Marvel Rivals Season 9 is not messing around. NetEase has dropped one of the most sweeping balance passes we have seen in a while, and it touches almost every corner of the roster. We are talking about a brand new health mechanic, a full rework of how Team-Ups affect your favorite heroes, reworked Ultimate energy generation, and a mountain of individual buffs and nerfs that are going to flip the meta on its head.

If you main a tank, expect your health bar to look a little different. If you main a healer, your Team-Up anchor bonuses are getting stripped in a big way. And if you play a duelist, some of your go-to picks just got hit while others quietly leveled up. Below is the complete breakdown of everything changing in Season 9, sorted role by role, with a bit of context on what it actually means once you load in.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 Release Date and Maintenance Schedule

Before you get your hopes up for a midnight drop, here is the deal with downtime. Maintenance kicks off on July 10th at 9 AM UTC and is expected to run for roughly two hours. Servers will be completely offline during that window, so the game will be inaccessible until things wrap up.

As always, exact return times can shift depending on how the rollout goes, so keep an eye on the official social channels for the all-clear. The build version tied to this update is 20260710.

The Biggest New Mechanic: Regenerative Shields Explained

The headline addition for Season 9 is a completely new type of health called Regenerative Shields, and it is going to change how a lot of heroes feel to play.

Here is how it works. Regenerative Shields run on the exact same logic as your base Health. Anything that scales off base Health, like percentage-based healing or percentage-based damage, applies to these shields in exactly the same way. So, mechanically, they are not some weird separate bar you have to babysit.

The twist is the regeneration itself. If you can avoid taking any damage for 5 seconds, your shields automatically start refilling and fully recharge over the next 5 seconds. The bigger your shield pool, the faster it comes back:

  • A 300 Regenerative Shield pool recovers at 60 per second
  • A 150 Regenerative Shield pool recovers at 30 per second

The practical result is a wave of heroes trading raw, static health for a chunk of shielding that rewards smart disengages. Dive characters and flankers get a natural rhythm of poke, retreat, and reset. Frontliners who can find a breather get to reset their effective health without a healer babysitting them. It rewards good positioning and punishes players who just facetank everything, which is a healthy direction for the game overall.

Global Changes: Ultimate Energy Generation Nerfed Across the Board

To keep the pace of fights from spiraling out of control, NetEase reworked how everyone charges their Ultimate. The tuning is aimed at slowing down the ult economy so games do not turn into a nonstop parade of team-wiping supers.

Here is the new conversion math:

  • Vanguards and Duelists: damage-to-energy conversion drops from 70% to 55%
  • Strategists: healing-to-energy conversion drops from 75% to 60%
  • Strategists: damage-to-energy conversion drops from 75% to 55%

Expect Ultimates to come online a little less often for everyone. This is one of those changes that does not show up on any single hero card, but you will feel it every single match.

Many Heroes Are Getting Nerfed

One thing worth understanding before you scroll through the nerfs and start typing angry comments. The devs made it clear that this patch is not just about cleaning up the Season 8.5 meta. A lot of heroes who were actually underperforming last season are still getting nerfed here, and the reason is the new Team-Up system.

In internal playtests, some of these heroes synergized so absurdly well with the reworked Team-Ups that they became flat-out overpowered. The classic example they gave is Iron Man. With his Gamma Charge Team-Up with Hulk returning, Tony was blowing past his peak power levels, so his baseline numbers got shaved to keep him in check when that pairing is active. So when you see a hero you love taking a hit, there is a good chance their new Team-Up is doing a lot of heavy lifting to make up for it.

You will also notice a recurring theme throughout this patch: the Team-Up Anchor bonus removals. A huge number of heroes are losing their flat anchor buffs, whether that is bonus health, damage boost, or healing boost. This is a deliberate reset so the new Team-Up effects can shine without old anchor bonuses stacking on top.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 Vanguard Changes

The tank role saw some of the most dramatic reworks, with several frontliners swapping big chunks of base health for Regenerative Shields.

Angela

  • Base Health reduced from 450 to 350, plus 200 Regenerative Shield added

Asgard’s assassin trades raw vitality for recovering shields, leaning into that slippery in-and-out playstyle.

Captain America

  • Base Health reduced from 600 to 300, plus 300 Regenerative Shield added
  • Team-Up Anchor 100 Bonus Health removed (total Health drops from 700 to 600)

A light touch here, just a small sync-up with the new Team-Up system.

  • Astral Flock: Hela can now fly freely in any direction while in Crow form

The Goddess of Death extends her reach and gets full freedom of movement in Crow form. Losing that 15% anchor boost is a notable trade, though.

Tony’s new Team-Up synergies are so strong the devs dimmed his baseline glow to keep him fair. This is the poster child for the “nerfed because the Team-Up is busted” philosophy.

Marvel Rivals Season 9 Strategist Changes
