Marvel Rivals is finally addressing one of the biggest complaints surrounding the hero shooter: its growing installation size. NetEase Games is preparing a major file optimization that will significantly reduce the amount of storage required across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
The optimization is expected to arrive alongside the Marvel Rivals Season 9.5 update on August 7, giving players more room for other games without removing any playable content.

Obviously, this is a substantial reduction for a live-service game that regularly adds new heroes, maps, cosmetic items, animations, and seasonal content. Players using smaller SSDs should have considerably more flexibility after the update.
Console players are also getting a meaningful storage improvement. The Marvel Rivals installation size on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will reportedly be reduced by approximately 15GB.
While the console reduction is smaller than the PC optimization, reclaiming 15GB can still make a noticeable difference, especially for players managing several large multiplayer games.
The Initial Marvel Rivals Update Will Be Larger
Players should be aware that the first seasonal installation using the new system will initially be larger. This is likely required while the game reorganizes, replaces, or compresses existing files.
Once the installation is fully completed, the unnecessary data should be removed automatically, leaving players with the smaller final game size. Players may therefore need to keep some extra storage available before starting the update.
The reduction arrives as part of Marvel Rivals Season 9.5, which will also introduce The Hood as a new Vanguard hero alongside additional events and seasonal content.
