Marvel Rivals is cracking down on mods that give players a competitive advantage, while giving some recently suspended accounts another chance. The developers confirmed that suspensions issued over the previous two days for specific mod types have been lifted. Players who continue using those modifications, however, will face further penalties.

The team has also announced tougher punishments for abusive text and voice chat, with severe offenses and repeat violations facing harsher consequences.

In brief:

  • Marvel Rivals prohibits mods that provide unfair advantages through altered visuals, audio, or character models.
  • Suspensions issued during the two days preceding the mod announcement have been lifted for the specified mod types.
  • Affected players must remove the offending modifications, as continued use remains punishable.
  • The developers have increased penalties for speech violations and launched a dedicated moderation policy page.

In its October 15 announcement, the Marvel Rivals team explained that certain mods use memory injection and modification techniques similar to those used by cheat engines. These methods trigger the gameโ€™s anti-cheat system, while some modifications also change combat presentation in ways that give users an advantage.

Players suspended for the specified mod types during the previous two days have had those suspensions removed. The developers are giving affected users an opportunity to delete the modifications and return to standard gameplay.

The same mods still remain prohibited, and continuing to use them can result in another penalty. The announcement applies to the identified recent suspensions, rather than every account previously banned for mod use.

Which Marvel Rivals Mods Are Prohibited?

The statement identifies four types of modifications that can undermine fair matches:

  • Structural model or texture changes: Alterations that give one player a visibility or line-of-sight advantage over others.
  • Recoil and visual effect removal: Changes that remove screen shake, bullet trajectories, or impact effects, making aiming and tracking easier.
  • Audio modifications: Changes to footsteps and other sounds that make enemy positions easier to identify.
  • Enlarged enemy models: Alterations that make opponents easier to spot, recognize, and target.

The developers say these examples are not an exhaustive list. Other tools or modifications that disrupt balance can also lead to disciplinary action.

Players Told to Delete Specific .asi Files

The team is asking players to stop running offending mods, close related programs, and remove both the mod files and any changes they made to the game.

The announcement specifically names pystubber.asi and MarvelRivalsUnmountBlocker.asi, saying their operations directly trigger anti-cheat detection for unauthorized client modifications.

Players who believe their punishment involved an error or special circumstances can appeal through official Customer Support. The team says it will review the details before deciding how to handle each case.

Although the developers expressed support for player customization when fairness is preserved, the statement provides no blanket approval for cosmetic mods.

Marvel Rivals Increases Penalties for Toxic Chat

A separate October 16 announcement confirms that Marvel Rivals has already increased penalties for speech violations. The crackdown covers text and voice chat, including insults, malicious harassment, discrimination, and hate speech.

Punishments depend on the nature and severity of the offense, alongside the playerโ€™s violation history. Severe incidents and repeated misconduct will receive significantly harsher penalties.

The team has also launched a dedicated Moderation Policy page explaining its rules and moderation systems. Players are encouraged to report abusive communication using the in-game reporting function.

The developers say players can express different opinions, while emphasizing that harassment and malicious attacks will remain subject to enforcement.
