Here is the active monthly player count of League of Legends in 2024.

League of Legends was released back in 2009. Even though it was a small and humble game at the time of its release, it quickly grew to be one of the most popular games of all time. Right now, it always stays at the top 5 most played PC games list.

Currently, there are multiple versions of League of Legends that players can play. Firstly, there is the global PC version, that most players play. There is also League of Legends China that has some differences. Moreover, Korean League of Legends has a different way to log in to your account. Additionally, there is also Wild Rift, which is the mobile version. The mobile version of the game is totally separate and recently is getting completely different content compared to PC League.

Besides League of Legends itself, Riot Games has released a ton of other projects based on League of Legends itself. We got Legends of Runeterra, which is a card game. Additionally, Riot is also releasing a fighting game based on League of Legends, called 2XKO. Besides games, there is also a Netflix show based on League of Legends called Arcane.

With all that said, it’s easy to say that League of Legends itself is very prominent overall. And here’s the active number of players in the global version of the game.

We have data here from 2011 to all the way to 2024. Since 2011, the game has increased drastically. In the early years, the active player count was only 15 million, and now it’s around 132 million.

However, we are seeing slight drop-offs as of recently. In 2022, the game peaked at 152 million players. But since 2023, we have seen a slight decline in the player count. That year overall didn’t even start well and many well-known players did end up retiring from the game during that period. While 2024 was certainly far better compared to 2023, the player drop-off was massive here as well.

Nevertheless, we have seen this kind of drop-off before as well in around 2017. And the player base did increase a lot later down the line. With the release of Arcane season 2 on the horizon, we can expect the player base to increase a lot in the coming days.
