Artifacts are critical in building characters in Genshin Impact, making your characters strong and viable on the field. Artifacts can be equipped for your characters, boosting their attributes, and you can fit up to five artifacts for one character.
You can get artifacts from certain domains or defeat Bosses in Genshin Impact, but you need to level them up to get good stats so they can be used on your characters.
Here are a few ways you can level up artifacts in Genshin Impact.
How To Level Up Artifacts in Genshin Impact
When you receive an artifact after defeating a Boss or completing a domain, you must level them up to get better sub-stats. It would be best to use artifacts of higher rarity on your characters so they can do the most damage or support you in combat.
There are two ways you can level up an artifact in Genshin Impact. Here are the ways you can level up an artifact in Genshin Impact.
Using Other Artifacts
Players can use other artifacts to level up an artifact in Genshin Impact. You can feed up to 15 other artifacts to upgrade an artifact. Moreover, you can choose the artifacts you want to feed to upgrade your desired artifact and get rid of the artifacts with bad stats.
You can also automatically select the artifacts you want to use to upgrade your desired artifact. To do this, you have to use the ‘Auto-Add’ option at the bottom right of your screen, which will add 15 random artifacts of lower rarity. After pressing Enhance, it will automatically upgrade the artifact, and you can do this repeatedly until the artifact is max leveled.

Using Artifact Enhancement Material
One other way players can level up an artifact is by using the Artifact Enhancement Materials. They are available in two rarities, Sanctifying Essence and Sanctifying Unction, which can be found by doing quests, events, and are also sold in the Serenitea Pot’s shop every week. Players can use these items to level up an artifact in Genshin Impact.
Max Artifact Levels
The maximum level for one-star and two-star artifacts is 4 in Genshin Impact. The max levels for three-star, four-star, and five-star artifacts are 12, 16, and 20, respectively. If you use an artifact that has been previously leveled up as an enhancement material, the new artifact will receive 80% of the XP materials of the previous artifact.
However, players are not recommended to use a 5-star artifact to level up another artifact unless they run out of enhancement materials.
Leveling up an artifact will also cost you a bit of Mora, but if you have three or four-star artifacts, they can be destroyed in exchange for Mora.
