Helldivers 2 is a new third-person PvE shooter developed by Arrowhead Game Studios—the sequel to the original top-down shooter, which was released back in 2015. The launch itself was problematic, however. Reportedly, Helldivers 2 is crashing constantly on PC and has multiple optimization issues.

While it is true that the silent majority might be enjoying the game smoothly, it is still concerning that a sizable group of gamers are facing launch issues. Arrowhead will undoubtedly move quickly to fix any possible problems with the engine. If you are still having problems, this article can help you!

Fixing Helldivers 2 Crashing On PC

On launch, it is quite common now to face issues in today’s landscape. There are a few common bugs that Helldivers 2 players are facing. While there are no official notes or acknowledgments yet, you can assume these issues will be ironed out with a day zero or day one patch.

Helldivers 2 Crashing On Launch

This is one of the most common issues faced by players. The game starts up and freezes or has a black screen, forcing you to quit or get kicked out of the game automatically. Sometimes, it shows the logos and then doesn’t respond. To fix this:

  • Access the root folder where you installed the game
  • Launch the game exe by “run as administrator”

This should be a temporary fix, and you should be able to launch the game easily.

Pressing Esc Crashes The Game

Another bug encountered by players is pressing the ESC button or just accessing the menu while in the game, which instantly crashes to the desktop. This might also happen when you are adjusting your settings, and the game randomly crashes, too. This fix is a bit less subtle, though, but here is a possible solution.

  • Access the Nvidia Control Panel from your desktop.
  • Go to Manage 3D settings.
  • Turn OFF image scaling.

This should fix your game randomly crashing, and you will be able to enjoy the game. Keep in mind that you might not be facing these issues, or even these fixes might not work for you. In this case, double-check your driver updates and verify the game files from Steam.
