Creating a private dedicated server in Soulmask isn’t as hard as it sounds. You should definitely give it a try.
You can play Soulmask with your friends by inviting them to your lobby through solo/friends, or you can also join an official server by browsing the public servers. But both of them have their limitations. So, creating a private dedicated server can save you a ton of hassle as well as let you play in peace.
Why a Private Dedicated Server?
There are some benefits to having a custom private server rather than hosting one using the solo/friends option. Firstly, if you host a server through the solo/friends option, you always need to be in the game to keep the server running. Secondly, other people who join the server may experience some lag. And thirdly, you cannot use the console commands if you play via the solo/friends option.
The issue of console commands is also applicable to public servers. Moreover, there is less freedom on the public server, meaning you cannot do whatever you want with your friends. So, a private dedicated server might be the best option if you truly want to enjoy the game with your friends.
How to Create a Private Dedicated Server
To create a dedicated server in Soulmask, follow these steps:
- Create a new folder to hold your server files
- Download SteamCMD for Windows from here
- Extract the file into the folder you created and open the steamcmd.exe
- Wait for the update to complete
- After that, type “login anonymous” and press enter
- After you see the waiting for user info… message, type “app_update 3017310” and hit enter. The server files will now start downloading. Depending on your internet connection, it may take 5-15 minutes
- You’ll see “Success! App ‘3017310’ fully installed” after the download completes
- Now, locate the folder where you installed the steamcmd. Open steamapps> common> Soulmask Dedicated Server for Windows
You now have the required files to run the Soulmask dedicated server. Before you start the server, you need to make some changes, such as setting up a name and password for your server, determining how many players you want to allow, determining the password for admins, and more. To do that, right-click StartServer.bat and choose Edit. You can find the StartServer.bat inside the Soulmask Dedicated Server for Windows folder.
These are the details you need to fill out before running the server:
- Setting the server name: -SteamServerName=”your server name”
- Setting the max players on the server: -MaxPlayers=”max player number”
- Server password: -PSW=”your password”
- Port: -Port=”7777″
- Enable GM access password: -adminpsw=”yourGMpassword”
- Setting to PVP mode: -pvp
- Setting to PVE mode: -pve
The final version should look something like this.
Note: Do not delete the commands that are already inside the file.
After you have edited the StartServer.bat file, save it and open it. The application will run some commands and start the server. It may take some time [1-5 minutes] to open the server completely.
After the server opens, you and your friends can normally join the server through online game> private servers. If you don’t see the server, it may be because the default port is blocked by the firewall. Make sure to allow it via the firewall through your router settings. Or contact your ISP.
