God of War Ragnarok is the last game for the God of War series inside Norse mythology. So people have been wondering whether Kratos dies at the end of this game. We are here to answer that question.

God of War Ragnarok takes place a few years after the first game. Kratos and Atreus have been training for all these times to face the Gods of this realm when the time comes. If you have played the previous game of the series, we killed one of Odin’s sons there. Thus they believed they would come for Atreus and Kratos sooner or later.

This game takes place in the middle of Fimbulwinter. Fimbulwinter is the three-year-long winter in Norse mythology on which the game is based. According to the prophecy, when the Fimbulwinter ends, the Ragnarok will begin. And Loki will be on the front line for the war.

But at the end of the previous game, we also saw a prophecy panel depicting Kratos’s death during Ragnarok. Since this game will follow Ragnarok’s events, it begs the question, Will Kratos die in this game? Here is the answer.

Does Kratos Die in God of War: Ragnarok?

In short, no Kratos does not die in God of War: Ragnarok. But that is not because he changed his fate. When we saw the prophecy panel showing Kratos’s death, it was not the actual prophecy. Faye, Kratos’s wife, swapped the actual panel for a fake one so that they could forge their own path instead of relying on the prophecy.

Thus, the death of Kratos was not true according to the prophecy, and he didn’t die during Ragnarok. In the end, we find out the real prophecy panel, which shows a golden Kratos being worshiped by people as the hero who saved all the realms.
