Did Ubisoft just Buff Thorn to increase sales of her new Elite Skin?

Ubisoft has just released a brand new Elite Skin for Thorn, who conveniently received a buff just a week ago.

Rainbow Six Siege’s trap operator Thorn just received her first Elite set, called the ‘Fearsome Blaze’.

While the Siege community usually gets very excited with an Elite skin release, this time, it is not quite the case, as Ubisoft seemed to have pulled off a very shady move.

In the Y8S2.3 Designer’s Notes, Ubisoft announced that they are giving Thorn the 1.5x scope, which is considered the best sight in the game right now. The reason, the devs stated, was Thorn currently being “one of the least picked trappers on defender lineups.”

Multiple Siege content creators quickly identified Ubisoft’s real intention behind this change, which was to increase the popularity of Thorn just a few days before her elite skin was released.

We even looked back at the past few pick rate charts, and Thorn remained at the same low pick rate position for quite a while now. We understand Ubisoft have to make some decision sometimes to build their business and increase sales. But making such balancing changes seem really scummy and cheapens the Designer’s Notes. Other trap operators, like Ela, also have a similar win and pick rate, but it doesn’t mean the devs will give her a buff.

What do you think about this move from Ubisoft? Let us know.
