Infinity Ward was once planning to bring a new zombie mode to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Unfortunately, the idea never made it through to the game and remained a mystery till now.

Infinity Ward artist Aaron Beck finally got the green light to showcase his concept arts for this zombie mode. In an Instagram post, Beck shared the unseen concept, which he noted is from “early in production”.

Although the art doesn’t show much of the zombie mode, it still showcases the Russian special forces walking the zombies captive on a leash. The quadruped robot duo also adds another level to this diverting concept art.

“I was thinking it would be fun to play with the classic Call of Duty zombie gameplay, hinting here at some sort of Russian special forces soldier and his duo of quadruped robots, holding captive zombified soldiers by leashes around their necks.”

However, this only remained as a concept because Activision thought it wasn’t authentic enough for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. “We’re trying to create an authentic, realistic feeling world. We don’t have the flexibility to do something like put zombies in the game,” said creative director Jacob Minkoff to PlayStation Lifestyle.

Although Call of Duty: Modern Warfare didn’t receive the zombie mode, Call of Duty 2020 is set to feature zombies according to the leaks. And this upcoming COD title will be called “Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War”.
