Best Aatrox Skins in 2022

All the Aatrox skins released till 2023 are ranked from worst to best.

Aatrox is one of my favorite champions in League of Legends. The Darkin God-Warrior is one of the strongest characters in the Runeterra. Moreover, he has some of the most iconic voice lines. Aatrox’s gameplay also complements his theme as a World Ender. Everyone knows how oppressive it is to deal with his 0 to 100 healing with 1 auto once he is slightly fed.

Aatrox is also one of the popular champions in LoL E-sports history. You will hardly see a Worlds or MSI tournament without him being picked or banned. In 2022, DRX Kingen crushed T1’s toplaner with his iconic Aatrox performance.

With popularity comes marketing scope. And what better way to do that than the good ol’ skin sales? Aatrox currently has 10 skins as I write. Surprisingly, Aatrox still doesn’t have legendary skin. But some of his epic skins look better than the legendary skins of other champions. Just goes to show how much care Riot puts into his skin designs.

Picking the right skin to suit your taste can be a difficult process. That’s why in this article, I will try to break down each of the released skins till 2023, to help you even so slightly.

How Many Aatrox Skins Are There in 2023?

As of writing this article, Aatrox currently has 10 skins in total. Each skin represents a certain style or theme. Aatrox’s recent skins are quite detailed and visually pleasing compared to his earlier ones.

Nowadays, Riot only uses Epic, Legendary, Mythic, and Ultimate tier for their skin categories. But back in the day, they also had 520 RP (Classic), 750 RP (Budget), and 975 RP (Standard) brackets.

  • Timeworn or Classic (520 RP): 0
  • Budget or Deluxe (750 RP): 1(Sea Hunter Aatrox)
  • Standard or Superior (975 RP): 1 (Justicar Aatrox)
  • Epic (1350 RP): 5 (Blood Moon Aatrox, DRX Aatrox, Lunar Eclipse Aatrox, Mecha Aatrox, Odyssey Aatrox)
  • Legendary (1820 RP): 0
  • Mythic (Mythic Essence): 2 (Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox, Prestige DRX Aatrox)
  • Ultimate (3250/2775 RP): 0
  • Victorious (Limited to rank rewards): 1 (Victorious Aatrox)

10. Sea Hunter Aatrox

  • Release Date: July 22, 2015
  • Price: 750 RP
  • Chroma: None

Before we dive deeper into the skin, let us look at the skin’s features first.

  • New Model

Sea Hunter Aatrox feels very out of place as I see it. Aatrox is more of a world-destroying threat than a pirate crew member. The design also looks very odd with his face particularly being completely unrecognizable. The sword design looks decent but the color scheme is very off-putting. The in-game model doesn’t even look as good as the base skin. Although I can see some people liking the unorthodox design, I think most people will share my opinion when I say it’s probably the worst Aatrox skin.

9. Odyssey Aatrox

  • Release Date: October 15, 2020
  • Price: 1350 RP
  • Chromas: 8 Chromas available

Among these 8, Ruby is only available through the Chroma bundle. The Merc chroma is limited-time Hextech craftable during certain events that may occur any time during the year. The other 6 Chromas can be purchased with 2000 BE (Emporium) or 175 RP.

Yes, you are right; Aatrox looks like Thanos in this one. Even his gloves resemble Thanos’ gloves, and the whole galactic theme fits well. Also, his wings during ultimate have similarities to his Mecha skin. However, the face does not have a devilish feel to it. And the outfit looks way out of fashion for a 2020 skin. The sword looks quite majestic with the Odyssey mini portal glowing but that’s about it. The armor design looks cheaply copy-pasted from a galactic RPG game’s villain’s costume. This skin had potential but I think not enough care was put into it. That’s why it’s my 2nd least favorite skin after Sea Hunter.

8. Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox

  • Release Date: January 10, 2019
  • Price: 150 Mythic Essence
  • Chromas: None

Before we dive deeper into the skin, let us look at the skin’s features first.

  • New Model
  • New Animation
  • New VFX
  • New Sound Effects

Prestige skins released in 2019 were just recoloring the base one with a golden hue. Prestige Blood Moon is no exception to that. The golden color makes the skin look worse, as the Blood Moon theme doesn’t go with it. However, they made some modifications to his sword in the 2022 version, but the underlying problem persists. It doesn’t feel worth spending 150 ME for a skin that looks worse than the base model.

7. Victorious Aatrox

  • Release Date: November 21, 2019
  • Price: Not Available anymore, Rank Reward for Season 9
  • Chromas: 1
Victorious Aatrox (Amber)

Victorious Aatrox has only 1 chroma, Amber. This was exclusively distributed by Riot for people who reached Gold or higher in two or more ranked queues.

  • New Model
  • New Animation
  • New VFX
  • New Sound Effects
  • New Recall Animation

Victorious Aatrox suffers from a lack of originality. The angelic wings and celestial design have already been done with Justicar Aatrox. However, the in-game model looks fantastic. The VFX on his abilities showcases the design Riot uses for rank crest. The golden petal particles released from each Q cast look very pleasing and give a sense of sweet victory.

The sounds are nice as well. The dissected angel-winged sword design may be a hit or miss though. Aatrox turning into a textureless white also-like figure during his recall is unique. Overall, it’s a great gift to the grinders.

6. Prestige DRX Aatrox

Release Date: June 1, 2023

Price: 1350 RP

Chromas: 0

  • New Model
  • New Animation
  • New VFX
  • New Sound Effects
  • New Recall Animation

Prestige DRX Aatrox has a really good design, but it feels really out of place with DRX’s theme. The menacing and demonic vibe that mingled very well with the base DRX Aatrox’s skin is non-existent in the prestige counterpart. In a vacuum, this skin could work well. But when you consider it a DRX skin, it doesn’t fit well. In terms of VFX, SFX, and animation, there’s the usual flashy lighting and everything but nothing too unique. Moreover, it doesn’t even have a voice filter. All in all, it’s a fairly average skin.

5. Lunar Eclipse Aatrox

  • Release Date: April 28, 2022
  • Price: 1350 RP
  • Chromas: 8

Among the 8 chromas, Ruby is only acquired with the bundle purchase. The rest of them are 165 RP each. You can also get them from the Emporium shop with 2000 Blue Essence.

  • Voice Filter

Right after Blood Moon, Lunar Eclipse Aatrox has the best splash art in my opinion. I personally like the dark blue and purple lighting on the hollow circle in his armor and sword. The armor is designed with a lot of fine details as you can see very subtle lines zoomed in.

These details are not lost in the in-game model either. The voice filter removed the demonic sound but surprisingly this worked in favor. However, the vibration in his recall and the sound during the ultimate cast are really out of the world. You can literally feel the World Ender’s vibe with the menacing VFX. It’s not the best of his skins, but it’s definitely above average.

4. Mecha Aatrox

  • Price: 1350 RP
  • Chroma: 3

This is another one of the best Aatrox skins. The animations and particles while swinging his sword look cool with the colors changing between Q. I like the in-game model and the splash art for the mecha anime vibes. Evangelion and Gundam fans can relate. It’s one of my favorite skins because of the fresh coloring and visual effects.

Aatrox transforming into a mecha jet during his recall also looks cool. However, some fans claim that the skin looks a bit more like a toy than an Autobot. I don’t see it, but you have to make the judgment on your own before deciding to buy.

3. DRX Aatrox

DRX Aatrox

Release Date: June 1, 2023

Price: 1350 RP

Chromas: 1

DRX Aatrox (Elite)

This Elite chroma is only available with the DRX Aatrox bundle. So you will need to spend for the prestige edition skin to get this.

  • New Animation

The drip is real with this one. DRX Aatrox couldn’t get any better than this. Miraculously, DRX’s theme color fits so well with Aatrox. Every time Aatrox uses an ability, it feels so satisfying with the beautiful VFX. You can feel DRX’s iconic victory against T1 every time you land the 3rd Q. The wings, in particular, with the DRX cross look very unique.

DRX Aatrox’s clothing is designed to exude a sense of sophistication that comes with being Worlds Champion. This skin is a visual splendor and worth each penny of that 1350 RP. Kingen’s performance has been perfectly honored with this.

2. Justicar Aatrox

  • New Model
  • Net VFX
  • New SFX
  • New Animation
  • New Recall
  • Voice Filter

This is one of the Aatrox skins for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, the splash art looks gorgeous with the angel-like wings giving off a celestial undertone. The blue and golden shades also complement the thematic aesthetics. What’s impressive is how the in-game model does not look far off from the splash art, something very rarely seen among the skins.

The visual effects are quite simple but very detailed and clearly show Aatrox’s movement. New recall animation and voice filters also add to the skin’s value. Speaking of value, this is one of the rare skins that cost only 975 but easily stands up to many of the modern legendary skins. I recommend you buy it if you play Aatrox even occasionally.

1. Blood Moon Aatrox

Blood Moon Aatrox

  • Release Date: January 10, 2019
  • Price: 1350 RP
  • Chromas: None

Before we dive deeper into the skin, let us look at the skin’s features first.

  • New Model
  • New Animation
  • New VFX
  • New Sound Effects
  • New Recall Animation

Blood Moon Aatrox is arguably the best skin of Aatrox, heavily contested by Justicar Aatrox. The splash art is quite a masterpiece. The demonic horn with the pale yet brooding face gives off an eerie aesthetics that not many blood moon skin does. His armor and shoulder guard have demonic patterns engraved. The sword in particular looks amazing with the little blood moon carved on the blade.

The in-game model does not look as great, but the great VFX and SFX more than makeup for it. Blood Moon Aatrox has the best ultimate casting sound effect out of all the skins in his closet. To be honest, this could easily qualify as a legendary skin. For 1350, it gives immense value
