Activision has revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as the direct successor for Modern Warfare (2019). Here’s everything we know about the upcoming sequel.

Modern Warfare (2019) has been a huge success for Activision and Infinity Ward. The game’s engine has been the base for Call of Duty: Warzone and Vanguard. Modern Warfare (2019) became widely known for its excellent campaign and a new multiplayer experience with brand new mechanics.

In their recent quarterly report, Activision has stated that the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 (2022) will be a direct successor of Modern Warfare (2019). This confirms that Captain Price and his Task Force 141 will return with a new mission. Moreover, Warzone 2.0 is also set to release in 2023, with a brand new engine developed by Infinity Ward.

Modern Warfare 2 is now official

Previously one Infinity Ward associate stated that,

“The topic of ‘Modern Warfare’ isn’t something to play about with; we’re ready to bear the brunt for what our Campaign intends to tell, though we’re pleased with its messages.”

His message implies that Modern Warfare 2 will feature a brutal and gritty campaign that will not shy away from reality like its predecessor Modern Warfare (2019).

Modern Warfare (2019) has one of the most realistic and brutal plotlines among all of the Call of Duty games. The game delivered a strong message with its terrorist plotline that cemented a strong foundation for the infamous Task Force 141.

The leaks suggest that the game will put Task Force 141 against cartels. Brutality and real-life situations will be critical points of the game’s plotline. We will see Captain Price leading Task Force 141 with returning old school characters Kyle “Gaz” Garrick, Johnny “Soap” Mactavish, and Simon “Ghost” Riley.

The main concern for Activision would be Warzone 2, which is supposedly coming out with the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Warzone has been one of the most successful titles for Activision. With Microsoft acquiring Activision-Blizzard, Warzone 2 will play a major role in the future live service market.
