A fan has leaked classified military information to win an argument in the War Thunder Forums.
War Thunder is a cross-platform military online game available for multiple platforms. The game takes pride in its accuracy of vehicle models and combat simulation. Warthunder won the Best Simulation Game award during the Gamescom 2013 Awards. Currently, it is one of the most played games on Steam with over 25,000 concurrent players.
Recently discussions about the Challenger 2 Tank’s incorrect design took place in the War Thunder official forums. During this, one user leaked classified Military information to prove his point.
In a report made by Kotaku, a user by the name of Fear_Naught claimed that the developers of War Thunder failed to design the Challenger 2 tank properly. He wrote,
“As I’ve stated a fair few times now the complexity of the construction is sometimes difficult to see/show with pictures… It is so complex in CR2’s case that I don’t completely blame Gaijin from getting it Incorrect. All I try to do is point out the areas where they are incorrect
According to the user, the gap at the front of the Tank is wider than it should be. Fear_Naught also used some other terms which might be difficult for non-military personnel and enthusiasts to understand so we will not go into much detail.
We all know that Gaijin on many occasions has scaling issues… the “gap” at the front of the array is 3 or 4 times wider than it should be for a start. But that “gap” doesn’t extend all the way to the turret base structure on the cheek.
Fear_Naught, apparently a commander in the Royal Tank Regiment of the United Kingdom, then shared altered images supposedly from the AESP(Army Equipment Support Publication) to prove his point.
War Thunder Personnels Respond:
A Senior Technical Moderator commented saying that they received written confirmation from the Ministry of Defence. He wrote,
“We have written confirmation from MoD that this document remains classified. By continuing to disseminate it you are in violation of the Official Secrets Act as stated by the warning on the cover of the document, an offence which can carry up to a 14 year prison sentence if prosecuted. Of this you are already aware, as a service person you have signed a declaration that you understand the act and what actions it compels you to take. Every time you post this you place us (International representatives of Gaijin), especially any UK citizens, in hot water as the warning so helpfully states that unauthorised retention of a protected document is an offence.”
War Thunder Community Manager “Smin1080p” wrote that they will not fix the Challenger 2 Tank’s in-game design despite it being wrong. Apparently, Warthunder cannot use any information unless it’s declassified and made public. He wrote,
“We make it very clear that we will not handle any source material unless it is publically available and fully declassified with the rights to prove that. ”
Fear_Naught apparently received a warning and the thread was later closed. The moderators also deleted most of the comments as well.
