While some of the major characters are automatically unlocked as part of the main story, players can also unlock various characters by using cheat codes, purchasing character DLCs, and completing side quests. Moreover, players can purchase rumors to get hints on how to unlock certain characters. Furthermore, players can also purchase characters using Studs later on in the game.

With an abundance of characters to choose from, you may wonder which characters are worth unlocking first. That’s why, we have put together a list of our top 10 picks of the best characters in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga along with how to unlock them.

10. Kylo Ren

To start off, we have Kylo Ren, who is a Dark Side character. Being a Dark Side character means he can use the Force just like Jedi characters. Kylo Ren can use a lightsaber in battle as well as play Mind Tricks on opponents. However, his lightsaber is unique from others as it emits red lightning. Moreover, despite being a gloomy character, his interactions with Darth Vader are quite funny as he goes into total fanboy mode during their interactions.

There are four versions of Kylo Ren in the game, among which you’ll also find a Shirtless Kylo Ren. Moreover, there is also a fifth version named Matt the Radar Technician, which is basically Kylo Ren in disguise. This particular version of Kylo Ren is unlocked in Episode 9. To unlock him, players must complete the episode’s fourth story mission titled “The Strength To Do It.”

9. Chewbacca

Chewbacca is not only a fan favorite but also one of the most popular characters from the Star Wars franchise. Han Solo’s trusty companion is a Scoundrel Character just like himself. This allows Chewbacca to use all useful Scoundrel combat abilities such as Piercing Round and Charged Shot, which can break through the enemy’s defense.

Moreover, his Business Opportunist skill also allows him to buy rumors with fewer Studs. Players can unlock Chewbacca in various stages from all three Trilogies, no matter which order they play in. However, to unlock a younger version of Chewbacca, players need to purchase the Solo: A Star Wars Story DLC character pack.

8. C-3PO

Even though Protocol Droids aren’t as popular as their Astromech counterparts, C-3PO sure has its own separate fanbase. The golden Droid may be annoying, but it sure is useful in many missions. C-3PO can access the Protocol Terminals to control other droids, turrets, and alarms, as well as unlock various doors.

There are seven different variants of the C-3PO, such as the Episode 1 version, Rusted C-3PO, C-3PO (Kijimi Coat), Holiday Special, and more. All of them can be unlocked during various story missions across all three trilogies.

7. Rey Skywalker

Rey (Sith) is a part of the Dark Side, which is why she is able to use the Force just like Jedi characters. She wields a dual-bladed lightsaber that gives her a wider attack range than most characters in the game. Moreover, as a Dark Side character, this version of Rey is able to play Mind Tricks on her opponents.

There are various versions of Rey in the game, but playing as Sith Rey will allow you to experience an alternate timeline where Rey succumbs to the darkness after being exposed to dark energy in a cave. You can unlock this version of Rey by completing the “The Strength To Do It” main quest in Episode 9.

Moreover, you can also play Rey Skywalker as a Scavenger class character, which will give you access to all the scavenger tools offered by that class. You can unlock Scavenger Rey in the “Low Flying Garbage” mission from Episode 7.

6. Leia (Jabba’s Palace)

Carrie Fisher helped Leia become one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars franchise. Among all other variations of Leia in the game, slave Leia from Jabba’s palace made its way onto this list for simply being the best among all other costumes. Since she is a Hero character, she can shoot a blaster at her enemies to perform ranged attacks.

Moreover, she can also use her Grapple Blaster to climb hard-to-reach areas and unlock secret containers. As a Hero character, Leia is able to disguise herself and access restricted areas by wearing armors of downed enemies. To unlock her, you must complete the “The Copa-Khetanna” mission from Episode 6.

5. R2-D2

R2-D2 is the most iconic Astromech Droid apart from BB-8 in the Star Wars franchise. Droids are almost essential in your journey as they can get past enemies undetected, helping you get through stealth missions. R2-D2 can access Astromech sockets to hack into systems and unlock new areas.

Moreover, with its Distraction skill, the R2-D2 is able to project a hologram that momentarily distracts enemies. There are three variants of the R2-D2 such as the classic, Swamp, and Waiter. Players can unlock the classic in the Prequel trilogy, while the other two variants can be unlocked during the Original trilogy.

4. Darth Vader

Our list would be incomplete without Darth Vader in it, as he is synonymous with being one of the toughest, most spine-chilling villains in pop culture. Although Darth Vader draws power from the Force like Jedi characters, he can easily overpower them all.

Moreover, he can use abilities such as Power Push to knock down objects and enemies across a large area. Furthermore, with his Force Crush ability, opponents will incur repeated damage when grabbed by the Force. Not only that, but opponents will run away at the sight of him. If players can upgrade the Dark Rise ability, Darth Vader can become even more powerful.

There are three versions of Darth Vader, including a Holiday version and a no-helmet version. Players can unlock the classic Darth Vader during the Original trilogy and the no helmet variant in Episode 7’s “Fulfil Your Destiny” main quest. The holiday version can be unlocked with the cheat code “WROSHYR.”

3. Luke Skywalker (Yoda Backpack)

Since Luke is a Jedi character, he uses a lightsaber in battle. Moreover, he can use the Force to pick up objects and throw them at enemies as projectiles. By upgrading his Force Flinger ability, players can increase the damage dealt from this attack. Furthermore, Luke is also able to use Mind Tricks on opponents, as well as amplify its effects with Mind Master and Trick Time abilities which will extend the range and duration of his mind tricks.

Luke carrying Yoda on his back during his training run at Dagobah is one of the most iconic scenes from the movies. And LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga offers this Luke Skywalker costume to players during the original trilogy. However, having his master on his back has no special effect in combat, and is simply there for the tribute. It is still the best of the 13 variants of Luke Skywalker in the game.

2. General Grievous

General Grievous has made it into this list for being one of the coolest characters in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. He is an iconic Star Wars villain who is loved by many for being one of the comic reliefs of the franchise. His interactions with other characters are always lively and interesting.

The android general wields four lightsabers in four arms, and that too with extreme maneuverability. He is able to hit multiple opponents across a wide range. Moreover, General Grievous is also able to throw grenades at opponents. Players can increase the blast radius of the grenades by upgrading the Demolitions Expert ability.

Since he is a Villain character, General Grievous can access Villain terminals to enter restricted areas. Furthermore, he can also call for backup in battle thanks to his Defense Droid ability. Players can unlock the character by completing the “So Uncivilised” main quest in Episode 3.

1. The Mandalorian Din Djarin with Grogu

While Boba Fett and Jango Fett are also great options, we have decided to go with The Mandalorian Din Djarin as our top pick on this list. He is followed around by Grogu, who is popularly referred to as Baby Yoda. Since the Mandalorian is a Bounty Hunter, he can use his rapid blast fire on enemies, as well as on gold chests to loot the hidden treasures inside.

By upgrading the Scatter Shot ability, players can increase the number of bolts fired and increase the range of projectiles to hit multiple enemies. Moreover, being a Bounty Hunter also comes with the perk of detecting enemy presence with the Enemy Detector ability. Furthermore, the Mandalorian can also throw shock grenades to stun opponents or disable energy shields. Players can unlock this character by purchasing The Mandalorian character pack DLC.
