Moreover, ByteDance has also made the official announcement that their videogame unit named Nuverse or “Zhaoxi Guangnian” in Chinese has acquired the Shanghai-based videogame developer behind the popular mobile game franchise Mobile Legends.
Nuverse was acquired by ByteDance in 2017 as a product calendar builder. It has since then been officially converted to a game studio. The studio debuted its official website in February, with a library of a total of 10 games and more on its way.
ByteDance said:
“Through cross-team collaboration and drawing on lessons and insights from its own rapid growth, Moonton provides the strategic support needed to accelerate Nuverse’s global gaming offerings,”
Furthermore, the current CEO of Moonton, Yuan Jing said that the company will continue to operate independently even after the acquisition by ByteDance. Moonton was founded by an ex-employee of the largest videogame company in China called Tencent.
Mobile Legends is most famous around southeast Asia for being a multiplayer online battle arena for competitive mobile players. Therefore, by acquiring Moonton, ByteDance will directly compete against League of Legends and Honor of Kings. They are both among the highest-earning games of Tencent. We can’t wait to see what ByteDance has planned ahead next.
