The Finnish developer has been working on the game for a few good years since its announcement in PlayStation’s State of Play in 2020. It had an initial release date of March 19, 2021, but was delayed by a month. The developers said that they wanted to take more time to deliver the quality of gameplay players expect them to give.
The game had revealed its story trailer last month and it has been met with positive reception. The story begins with Space Scout Selene trying to undo the constant loop of resurrection. After every death, Selene is revived, following a pattern of traversing across foreign environments and combating extraterrestrial beings with growing visions in a world that’s ever-changing.
The game has released a new trailer today (April 14th, 2021). The new trailer showcased the enemies and bosses players would face in the game. The monsters and machines seen in the trailer are the right mixes of scary and aggressive.
Returnal is set to release exclusively on the PlayStation 5 on April 30th, 2021.
