Shroud one of the most mechanically gifted player in the realm of FPS games has claimed that having good hardware is not a major factor when it comes to being really good at video games.
Whenever you think of someone with a really good aim, Shroud is usually up there at the top of any list. Many players insist on having good hardware in order to get good at FPS games. However, Shroud thinks otherwise. According to shroud while having good hardware like a high refresh rate monitor, a better spec PC, better mouse plus keyboard combo, etc can certainly help only if you are already at a certain level.
Nevertheless, players with really good game sense are going to outperform bad players with really good hardware. In his recent video on his second channel, Shroud explained the importance of having better game knowledge rather than just upgrading your hardware to get better at video games.
Having really good hardware isn’t everything
“If you have shi**y hardware your mechanics might be a little off but that’s not that big of a crutch you know most of these games is all brain power”, Shroud on having bad hardware.
Back in 2019, Shroud teamed up with Linus tech tips to see if high refresh rate monitors can actually help you to get better at FPS games. While working on that project Shroud realized how important having a good high refresh rate panel is for minimizing input delay in FPS games. Although if you are really bad, just adding good hardware won’t actually do you any favor.
After certain point hardware usually doesn’t hold a player back from reaching their full potential. Though you have to work really hard to get to a point where your hardware is limiting your skills to perform better. Only then it actually makes sense to upgrade your hardware in order to get that extra edge in competitive games.
