Psyonix has announced the new free-to-play Rocket League Sideswipe mobile game and it’s coming on iOS and Android later this year.
As the name suggests, Rocket League Sideswipe is a 2D version of the car soccer game franchise. The mobile game is set to come out sometime later this year. The announcement was made by developer Psyonix on their official blog.
Sideswipe will allow players to use their phone’s touch controls to navigate their vehicles in a 2D sidescrolling perspective. The matches will be 2 minutes long each, with 1v1 or 2v2 modes to accommodate the small screen experience. The original counterpart has 5 minute long matches with each team having up to four players.
“We are targeting a worldwide launch for Rocket League Sideswipe later this year for free on iOS and Android. Starting today, players in Australia and New Zealand will be able to join a limited-time Regional Alpha test on Android via the Google Play Store. We’ll have more information on future betas in additional regions in the coming months.”
Much like the original, Rocket League: Sideswipe will also allow players to have extensive car customization options in the garage:
Psyonix also mentioned that the game will be welcoming to both experienced and new players. The control system will be easy to learn for everyone. However, there are still some advanced techniques available for competitive players to learn in order to climb through the ranks. The game will have an online ranking system to initiate a competitive drive.
