Rainbow Six Siege director has confirmed that cross-progression and crossplay are still being worked on, but might be limited to consoles only.

With the release of Ubisoft Connect back in October 2020, Ubisoft introduced cross-progression and crossplay for some selected titles, which unfortunately didn’t include Rainbow Six Siege. But now, it seems likes Siege fans might be finally getting what they’ve asked for years.

In a recent interview with PC Gamer about the new season Operation: Crimson Heist, Siege game director Jean-Baptiste Halle was asked about the long-requested cross-progression features.

“We’re actively working on cross-progression and crossplay,” he said. “Within the realm of consoles, I think it would be great if PlayStation and Xbox could play together.”

Halle pointed out some obvious advantages for crossplay, which includes shorter matchmaking times. In some regions, the popularity of one console is heavily shifted to one side, for example in Asian regions, where PlayStation users far outweigh Xbox players.

But when it comes to crossplay with PC, Halle isn’t quite sure if it would be the best idea. “I can see the pros, but I can also see the cons,” Jean-Baptiste Halle said about PC-console crossplay. “So, for this one, it’s too early for us to communicate.”

Much of this concern comes from the obvious mouse and keyboard advantage that PC players have. Some console players are already using 3rd-party hardware to use MnK on consoles in order to reach higher ranks.

Cross-progression on the other hand will be very welcomed by the Siege community as it will enable players to switch between platforms without having to buy every single operator again, or more importantly, all of your precious skins will be transferred.
