Rainbow Six Quarantine apparently renamed to ‘Rainbow Six Parasite’

Ubisoft’s tactical co-op title Rainbow Six Quarantine has seemingly been renamed due to the global pandemic, according to a leak via the PlayStation Network.

The file uploaded to Orbis Patches cites itself as the “Initial launch patch”. And after digging through the game files, MP1ST.com have found “what seems to be an image from the file belonging to the PS4 of the dash, boot, and save data icon, and the mention of Rainbow Six Parasite“, which just might the new title for the once announced Rainbow Six Quarantine.

However, this name change doesn’t come out as a huge surprise. In Ubisoft’s latest Q3 earnings call, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that they were evaluating releasing a game with “quarantine” in the title of the game. Given what the world has been through in the past year, a lot of people might have a negative connotation with the word “quarantine”.

But none of these name changes has been officially confirmed by Ubisoft as of now, so take all this with a pinch of salt.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine is a three-player tactical co-op game set several years in the future of the Rainbow Six universe. At Ubisoft’s E3 2019 press conference we got the first intense look at this new title, with an early 2020 release date.

However, on 29th Oct. 2020, Ubisoft shared the news that both Rainbow Six Quarantine and Far Cry 6 have been delayed into Ubisoft’s next fiscal year 2021-2022, due to the pandemic.

But Ubisoft recently confirmed that the game would launch before September 30, 2021, narrowing down the release window from the previous “2021-2022” fiscal year.

Rainbow Six Parasite will be available on PC, PS4 and PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S.

Update:

Ubisoft has confirmed that Rainbow Six Quarantine’s new name is not ‘Parasite’. Ubisoft has shared a statement to PCGamesN that reads, “While we recently shared that we will be changing the name of Rainbow Six Quarantine, ‘Parasite’ is only a placeholder that our internal teams use. Recently, we ran an internal test for the game and some of its details became public. We can confirm this is a glimpse of the upcoming game, and we will share more details, including the official name, soon.”
