Are you someone who loves Tank Heroes in Overwatch 2 but are confused about who to play? Don’t worry as we guide you through all the Tank Heroes in Overwatch 2 and rank them accordingly so that you can pick the best Tank hero based on your playstyle.

Overwatch 2 is the most anticipated multiplayer title of 2022. Blizzard has finally released the game, pulling down cover on its predecessor after six years, Overwatch. Additionally, unlike OW1, this game is a free-to-play title.

The 5v5 game has remained the same as its predecessor, with a few changes made to most heroes and some gameplay mechanics. As the title is free-to-play, players are flooding the servers to get a peek at everything new the game offers.

Overwatch 2 brought many unique things into the game that its predecessor lacked. Blizzard also made changes to make Overwatch 2 better but not wholly different from Overwatch. Like many other things, Blizzard has changed some old Heroes and added some new ones to Overwatch 2.

How Many Heroes are There in Overwatch 2?

Although there were 32 Heroes in the prequel, Blizzard added three new Heroes to this newly released Overwatch 2. So, currently, there are 35 Heroes in Overwatch 2, and Blizzard will add more Heroes in the future.

Like before, the Heroes in Overwatch 2 are divided into three categories: Tank, Damage, and Support. Among them are 10 Tank Heroes, 17 Damage Heroes, and 8 Support Heroes in Overwatch 2.

What are Tank Heroes?

Tank heroes live up to their name by soaking in damage while dealing critical damage in a chokehold. Tanks are the initiator as they lead the charge in most cases, especially in the payload game mode.

Tank heroes are the bread and butter of Overwatch’s gameplay. They set up space for Damage heroes while Support heroes work around them on the battlefield. Aside from the Damage players, most Tank heroes can set themselves up for flashy plays. Every Tank hero has a damage-heavy arsenal with a set of defensive capabilities.

Blizzard’s official description states, “Tank heroes soak up damage and shatter fortified positions, like closely grouped enemies and narrow chokepoints. If you’re a tank, you lead the charge.”

Before we start with the tier list, we want to clarify that all the Tank Heroes in Overwatch 2 are good in their way. Based on their abilities, they all come in a clutch in different circumstances, maps, game modes, and team compositions.

However, there is no denying that some Tank Heroes prevail in overall scenarios. As a result, these Tank Heroes are highly preferred over other Tank characters because of their versatility. So, this guide is to mainly help you to pick the overall best Tank Heroes in Overwatch 2.

S-Tier Heroes

Orisa

Orisa is a pillar dishing out damage in the highest possible way while absorbing damage from enemies in a chokehold. Her strength makes her the best Tank hero in Overwatch 2, taking away the reign from Reinhardt.

Her Augmented Fusion Driver is an automatic heat-based weapon. It deals extensive damage at a closer range. She can use her Energy Javelin to stun an enemy and knock them back. Additionally, she can use Fortify to reduce all damage and heat her weapon generates.

On the other hand, her Javelin Spin can deflect projectiles and block melee attacks at the same time while pushing enemies backward at greater speeds. Her ultimate Terra Surge is deadly, as it can sweep in enemies and anchor down while charging a surge of damage.

Reinhardt

Reinhardt is a champion who lives by the knightly codes of valor, justice, and courage. Clad in powered armor and swinging his hammer, Reinhardt leads a rocket-propelled charge across the battleground and defends his comrades with a massive energy barrier. Reinhardt is a must-pick for players who won’t find themselves getting bored while wielding a shield to create space for the team.

Reinhardt’s Rocket Hammer is a devastating melee weapon that deals extended damage with each hit. Additionally, his Charge allows him to charge forward and smash an enemy against a wall. His Fire Strike enables him to launch a fiery projectile that stuns and deals damage to enemies at mid-range.

However, his signature ability Barrier Field allows him to put a shield in front of him, allowing his teammates to take cover behind it. His ultimate Earthshatter allows him to slam the ground creating a mini-earthquake that deals damage to enemies in its projectile path.

Roadhog

Roadhog is a durable killer with a Scrap Gun that’s devastating at close range. Few enemies can escape him and his fearsome hook. His bumped health pool makes him a formidable tank to deal with in most situations. Roadhog can excel in holding points with a dedicated healer, and his damage dealing in quick succession makes him ideal for most Tank players.

His Scrap Gun is a short-range spread weapon with maximum damage at close range. On the other hand, his Chain Hook allows him to drag a targeted enemy to him. Additionally, his Take a Breather enables him to heal himself and reduce incoming damage taken for a short period.

Roadhog’s ultimate Whole Hog allows him to unleash his wrath by damaging and knocking back enemies that stand in front of him.

B-Tier Heroes

Junker Queen

The Junker Queen is the uncontested ruler of the chaotic city of Junkertown. Armed with a shotgun, her knife Gracie, and her axe Carnage, she delights in wreaking havoc on the front line of battle. She’s a new addition to Overwatch’s heroes roster, so she’ll need some time to settle into the meta. Although she is a great Tank hero, her lower health pool puts her at a disadvantage in most scenarios.

Junker’s Scattergun is a pump action shotgun that deals maximum damage at close-range engagements. Her Jagged Blade activates when thrown at a target. Also, it can be reactivated to pull it back, impaling any enemy stuck with it. It also has a frangible passive that deals damage to enemies over time.

On top of that, her Commanding Shout provides her team with temporary health and speed. Furthermore, her Carnage ability enables her to wound all enemies before her, dealing damage over time. Lastly, Rampage allows her to charge forward, wounding enemies, dealing damage over time, and preventing them from getting healed.

Adrenaline Rush is a unique ultimate that allows Junker Queen to heal from all damage received over time dealt by wounds.

Zarya

Zarya is one of the world’s strongest women, a celebrated athlete who sacrificed personal glory to face the mechanical foes threatening her people. Armed with a powerful beam weapon and an arsenal of protective shields, Zarya excels in frontline combat. She is an excellent pick for most of her abilities to mitigate as much damage as possible with low cooldowns.

Zarya’s Particle Cannon is a short-range linear beam weapon. Additionally, her Particle Barrier can create a damaging barrier around her. Moreover, she can use a Projected Barrier to create a barrier around her allies. She can launch her Graviton Surge to pull enemies that fall in its radius.

Her Energy Ultimate enables her Particle Cannon damage to get a buff as she blocks damage using her barrier.

Winston

A super-intelligent, genetically engineered gorilla, Winston is a brilliant scientist and a champion for humanity’s potential. He wields impressive inventions such as a jump pack, electricity-blasting Tesla Cannon, portable shield projector, and more with literal gorilla strength. Winston is a superior pick for his defensive abilities and crowd control.

Winston brandishes a Tesla Cannon, an electrical frontal-cone weapon that can fire at multiple targets. He also carries a Jump Pack that allows him to leap forward into the air and slam into his enemies, dealing massive damage. Moreover, he can deploy a Barrier Projector that releases a protective energy dome that can soak in incoming damage and projectiles.

Lastly, Winston packs his spartan rage as his ultimate. Primal Rage allows him to gain immense health. However, he can only leap and punch enemies in that state.

B-Tier Heroes

Sigma

Sigma is an eccentric and volatile astrophysicist who gained the power to control gravity in an orbital experiment gone wrong. Manipulated by Talon and deployed as a living weapon, Sigma’s presence on the battlefield cannot be ignored. Although Sigma is a brilliant Tank hero, his damage is too low in most cases, putting him at a disadvantage compared to his counterparts in the same class.

Sigma can launch Hyperspheres at his enemies that implode after a short duration, dealing damage in the projected area. His Kinetic Grasp grants him the power to absorb projectiles before him and convert them into shields.

On top of that, he uses Accretion to gather a mass of debris and throw it at an enemy to knock them down. Furthermore, he can wield an Experimental Barrier that helps him absorb damage.

His ultimate Gravity Flux helps him manipulate gravity to lift enemies into the air and slam them back down, dealing maximum damage at impact.

Wrecking Ball

Hammond, the genetically-engineered hamster, rolls across the battlefield in his highly mobile Wrecking Ball mech. With an arsenal of weapons and the power of momentum, he will crush any enemies who get in his way. While Hammond has an excellent ultimate that can help him overtake objectives alone, a decent team with a healer can make his abilities useless.

Wrecking Ball has an arsenal of weapons, starting with the Quad Cannons, an automatic assault weapon. Next comes his signature ability, the Grappling Claw, which can be launched to connect to surfaces and swing around the area. Collisions with enemies cause damage and knockback.

On top of that, he uses Roll to transform into a ball, increasing maximum movement speed. Piledriver makes him slam into the ground from above, causing damage to enemies while launching them upward in the air.

Adaptive Shield provides extra personal health, which increases with the enemy count around him. Wrecking Ball’s ultimate Minefield makes him deploy a massive field of proximity mines that explode in enemy contact.

D.Va

Once a professional gamer, D.Va now utilizes her nimble reflexes and quick thinking to pilot a state-of-the-art mech to defend her homeland. While her Tanking abilities are a little lackluster, her damage dealing makes her an excellent pick for good players.

Her Fusion Cannons are automatic short-range spread weapons similar to a shotgun. She can use a Light Gun once she exits the Mech. Her Boosters allow her to fly in the direction she’s aiming at.

Coming to her defensive ability, she can put up a Defense Matrix that blocks projectiles in front of her. On top of that, she can launch a volley of Micro Missiles. She can Self-Destruct by ejecting her Mech when it takes excessive damage and explodes, causing damage in its radius.

After a while, she can Call Mech to bring a new mech to action while launching her old Mech toward enemies, causing an explosion.

Doomfist

Recently freed from imprisonment, Doomfist is determined to plunge the world into a new conflict that he believes will make humanity stronger. His cybernetics make him a powerful and highly-mobile frontline fighter capable of dealing ranged damage, knocking enemies into the air, and charging boldly into the fray. Originally a DPS hero, Doomfist is yet to find his identity as a true Tank hero in Overwatch 2.

Doomfist’s Hand Cannon is a short-range weapon with a spread that can reload automatically. It has maximum damage in close-range engagements. He can use Rocket Punch to launch forward and knock an enemy back, with the damage increasing if the enemy crashes into a wall.

Additionally, his Seismic Slam allows him to leap and smash the ground dealing damage to anyone in his way. Finally, he can use Power Block to protect himself from frontal attacks, while blocking heavy damage empowers Rocket Punch.

His ultimate, Meteor Strike, makes him leap into the air allowing players to move a targeting circle and later use Seismic Slam to crash into that targeted area.
