The video shows distinct maps along with some platforming and puzzle segments as it is in every Metroidvania game. Hence, adding a third person mechanic will surely put a new spin to the game and maybe introduce a trend of a new sub-genre- Third-person Metroidvania.
Nevertheless, Recompile looks absolutely stunning in terms of both visuals and gameplay from the trailer.
Additionally, the game details on the website states:
Recompile aims to be the first ever Metroidvania-style game to include multiple, highly dynamic critical paths. Your play style and choices matter, weaving together a narrative unique to you as the true nature of the mysterious virtual world is revealed.

This means Recompile will offer a dynamic storyline whose outcome depends on the play style and decisions of the players. Furthermore, the site also includes-“The game’s entire narrative takes place within 1 second of realtime”. Whatever that means, maybe a time manipulation mechanic; we can only guess.
Recompile is under development by Phigames. In addition to Xbox Series X, the game will release on the PS5 and PC in 2020.
