If you are wondering which top lane champions are the strongest in patch 12.7, we’ve got you covered with an in-depth tier list.
Aside from some weird marksman picks that everyone hates, most of the champions in the top lane are either Tanks or Bruisers. Tanks are suitable for engaging and soaking up damage to protect the backline. On the other hand, Bruisers are strong fighters who can deal decent damage while being somewhat tanky.
Tanks are not that popular in solo queue as they lack damage and need to depend on their team to carry them. So no matter how tanky you are or how good your engages are, you can’t win unless your carries are at least decent. We see tanks mostly played in pro play and very high ranks. You don’t want to rely on a carry in the lower elo.
So, we suggest you play bruisers in the top lane. And lucky for you, tanks are not that strong right now anyway. Bruisers give you a lot of agency to dominate your lane and use your lead to carry the game. Some champions like Riven, Akshan, and Fiora are strong picks but harder to play to their max potential. If you are struggling with those difficult picks, there are a lot of easier picks in the meta right now for the top lane.

Best Top Lane Champions in Patch 12.7
S-Tier
Fiora
Fiora is one of the best top laners right now. You get insane healing with Conqueror and her items. Though she is mainly a split pusher, she doesn’t do half bad in team fights with Goredrinker heal. Death’s Dance is a perfect item for her if the enemy team has mostly AD champions.
- Keystone: Conqueror
- Core Build: Goredrinker > Ravenous Hydra
Riven
Riven looks pretty OP in this patch with more than a 52% win rate. Conqueror is the way to go here as well. Also, with Riven, you build Goredrinker, which gives you omnivamp, ability haste, and damage. All of them fit perfectly with Riven’s kit, and the active on Goredrinker lets you pull some sick outplays.
- Keystone: Conqueror
- Core Build: Goredrinker > Death’s Dance
Garen
Garen’s build is weird with Mortal Reminder and Berserker’s Boots. But if you played against any Garen with that build, you already know how strong that is. Your mythic item will be Stridebreaker, and it helps a lot to slow enemies and stop them from kiting you. After the core build, you can build tank items depending on the situation and enemy team comp.
- Keystone: Conqueror
- Core Build: Stridebreaker > Mortal Reminder
A-Tier
Mordekaiser
If you need an AP bruiser in the top lane, Mordekaiser is your guy. He is another champion who uses Conqueror and has insane healing. You can dominate most matchups in the top lane, though some champions can be hard to deal with. A good Riven or Fiora can certainly give you a hard time with all those dashes.
- Keystone: Conqueror
- Core Build: Riftmaker > Demonic Embrace
Shen
Shen has been at the top for a while now. Teleport changes gave him more power than other top laners in season 12. But he is mainly a tank, and as the game goes on, you will find your damage becomes more and more insignificant.
- Keystone: Grasp of the Undying
- Core Build: Frostfire Gauntlet > Titanic Hydra
Kayle
Kayle is slowly becoming one of the premier picks in the top lane with how strong Lethal Tempo is. She currently has an almost 52% win rate. And with her new skin coming out soon, Riot probably won’t nerf her now. She is a late-game hyper carry in the top lane with a weak early game. So if you can survive the early game with her, you can easily carry games with Kayle.
- Keystone: Lethal Tempo
- Core Build: Nashor’s Tooth > Riftmaker
Quinn
Quinn has the highest win rate in this patch amongst all the top laners. This is because you can harass your lane opponent heavily with Quinn, and also, you can roam a lot after level 6. But keep in mind that people hate ranged top laners, so you will likely get ganked more than normal.
- Keystone: Press The Attack
- Core Build: Immortal Shieldbow > Stormrazor
Ornn
Ornn is one of the best tanks in the game right now. He is picked heavily in pro play with great success. His ultimate is a great engage tool, and he also provides a lot of CC. In the early game, you can go toe to toe with the best bruisers and even kill them. His damage falls off in the late game, but he provides a lot in team fights.
- Keystone: Grasp of the Undying
- Core Build: Sunfire Aegis > Winter’s Approach
B-Tier
- Darius
- Malphite
- Aatrox
- Akshan
- Wukong
- Yone
- Rengar
- Camille
- Tahm Kench
- Sett
- Yorick
- Vayne
- Chogath
- Kled
- Dr. Mundo
- Illaoi
- Poppy
- Singed
- Urgot
- Trundle
- Warwick
- Pantheon
- Viktor
- Lillia
- Sylas
- Cassiopeia
There are a lot of champions in this tier, but most of them have reasonable win rates. But among all of them, Darius, Tahm Kench, Akshan, Wukong, Yone, etc., are more robust than the others. If played properly, any of them can win you games.
C-Tier
- Kennen
- Neeko
- Nasus
- Rumble
- Volibear
- Karma
- Tryndamere
- Jax
- Gwen
- Lucian
- Teemo
Champions in this tier all have a sub 50% win rate. Having said that, if they are your main champions, you can still play them and win some games. But they are weaker than most other champions right now. For example, Tryndamere, who was very strong for some time, got nerfed in patch 12.6 and is now in this tier with a 49% win rate.
D-Tier
- Vladimir
While Vladimir is quite strong in the mid-lane, it’s another story in the top lane. He has a 48% win rate in the top lane.
F-Tier
- Graves
- Gnar
- Gragas
- Renekton
- Akali
- Sion
- Irelia
- Jayce
- Gangplank
We suggest you don’t pick these champions right now. They have horrible win rates and aren’t worth the risk. Furthermore, they get countered by most of the strong champions right now.
