Everything you need to know about all the Gemstone/Hextech Crafting skins in League of Legends.
Hextech skins are one of the most exclusive skins in League of Legends that can be obtained by 10 gemstones. While the Ultimate and Legendary skins are directly purchasable with RP, Gemstone skins can only be unlocked by Hextech Crafting. Due to gemstones’ rarity, getting a Hextech skin sometimes feels special – if you ignore how bad some of them are.
Hextech skins are set in an alternate League of Legends universe where champions are Hextech users or Hextech machinery. Riot first introduced the gemstone exclusive skins back in 2016 with Hextech Annie.
In the early days, gemstone skins were somewhat popular due to their rarity. But now, a lot of players have been complaining that gemstone skins are not worth it as most of the Hextech skins have little to no special animations or VFX.
Riot however did acknowledge that Gemstones and Hextech skins need some modernization. “We’ll be transitioning Gemstones to a new rare (Mythic-themed) currency and releasing more exclusive content for it,” Riot on the future of the skin line.

Before we rank all the existing Gemstone skins, here are all the Hextech skins are that currently available in League of Legends 2021:
Dark Star Cho’Gath
Lancer Zero Hecarim
Hextech Jarvan IV
Best Gemstone Skins (A Complete Tier List)
- Best (S-tier): Hextech Swain, Dark Star Cho’Gath, Hextech Annie
- Good (A-tier): Hextech Alistar, Hextech Poppy, Hextech Amumu, Hextech Kog’Maw, Hextech Rammus, Hextech Ziggs
- Average (B-tier): Dreadnova Darius, Lancer Zero Hecarim, Hextech Jarvan IV, Hextech Kassadin, Hextech Malzahar, Hextech Nocturne, Hextech Renekton, Hextech Sejuani, Soulstealer Vayne
Out of all the Gemstone skins, Hextech Swain has to have the best animations and it is also by far Swain’s best skin in League of Legends.
Dark Star Cho’Gath also made it to our best skin list because of his insane base model. His W and walking animations also look great compared to the other skins. And lastly, despite being the very first gemstone skin, Hextech Annie is also on our best skin list.
Hextech Amumu, Kog’Maw, Rammus, and Ziggs all have very cute splash arts but they lack the wow factor in their base model and animations for which they are on the A-tier list. Hextech Alistar and Hextech Poppy are pretty good and very close to S-tier. If you’re an Alistar or Poppy main you should definitely take a look into them.
All the skins in the B-tier are very average looking and unless you are a main of any certain champion, it’s wise to not waste the gemstones. Some might argue that Soulstealer Vayne should have been higher in rank – but compared to some of the recent Vayne skin, Soulstealer Vayne feels super outdated and underwhelming to play with. For which it is on our B-tier.
