Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan leaves Blizzard Entertainment after 19 years with the team. He was the face of Overwatch, bringing new updates about the game as well as hero changes himself. Assistant Game Director Aaron Keller is to step up and replace Kaplan’s role.
Jeff Kaplan has worked closely with his team in bringing Overwatch to the mainstream gaming scene. He heard took feedback from the community, a part of which did end up playing an important role in the decision-making for hero balancing. Jeff Kaplan was the face of the game, bringing updates and new content to the community and personally delivering them. He also participated in special events like the 10 hour-long Christmas stream back in 2017 which comprised of him doing nothing but sitting still and looking at the audience.
Jeff Kaplan’s statement
In a statement, he said “I am leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 amazing years.
It was truly the honor of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create worlds and heroes for such a passionate audience. I want to express my deep appreciation to everyone at blizzard who supported our games, our game teams, and our players. but I want to say a special thanks to the wonderful game developers that shared in the journey of creation with me.
Never accept the world as it appears to be. always dare to see it for what it could be. I hope you do the same.”
With Overwatch 2 in development, Aaron Keller promises to deliver. He is now the new Game Director of Overwatch and says “development is continuing at a good pace” With the announcement of Blizzard in February, we should not expect Overwatch 2 anytime soon this year.
