Below the map look at the Sand Burrowing mechanics introduced in Fortnite Season 5.

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 5 has introduced a new mechanics called sand burrowing. Players slowly start to sink when standing in the sandy area at the center of the map. They can then move around much quicker and look like a lump of sand which helps conceal movement.

Since the beginning of this season, sand burrowing has been one of the fastest ways to get around if you are near the center of the map. Players have been wondering for some time about what happens under the sand while using the sand burrowing mechanic. From the top, we can only see a lump of sand moving around very fast.

Now thanks to a Twitter user we can finally learn what happens below the sand while burrowing through the sand at high speeds.

Lucas7yoshi is a prominent leaker in the Fortnite community. Besides posting Fortnite leaks on his Twitter account he has taken a keen interest in the Sand Burrowing mechanics introduced in Fortnite Season 5.

He revealed a below the sand view of the sand burrowing mechanic on his Twitter account. In the video, we can see the character slowly starting to sink. Then we can see a below the sand view that shows us that the Fortnite character is standing under the map. While moving forward during sand burrowing the Fortnite character starts gaining speed at a rapid rate until reaching a speed threshold.

You might have noticed that while sand burrowing if you go over a road or leave the sandy area you character springs out of the sand burrowing mode. This happens because that part of the map doesn’t allow sand burrowing and has solid ground. The parts of the map that allow sand burrowing has a hollow area under the map.

Lucas7yoshi thinks that the sand burrowing mechanics was developed and implemented under a day due to the lack of proper animations. If that’s the case then we must agree that Epic developers are truly amazing because making something like this work in under a day is truly challenging.
