Unlike Battlefield 3 or Battlefield 4, this time DICE has implemented a new Specialist Class system. These Specialists have their own unique abilities, however, unlike the previous games, they have access to the entire arsenal of the game. Battlefield has released the details of 4 of the 10 Specialists that will be in the game at launch.

Specialist Classes & features

Webster Mackay (Assault Class)

Originated from Canada, this specialist features truly unique movement abilities. Notably, the Grappling Hook, which was first revealed during the gameplay trailer. Additionally, he also packs a passive ability called “Nimble” which allows him to gain a faster pace than other specialists while aiming.

Wikus “Casper” Van Daele (Recon Class)

This South African Specialist has access to the OV-P Recon Drone. It’s a multipurpose drone, able to generate EMP Blasts & spot enemies from distances. Additionally, the drone can also lock on to moving or stationary targets to aid nearby teammates armed with Guided Missile or equivalent weapons. Casper also has a “Movement Sensor” warning him of nearby enemies, making him the ideal self-sufficient sniper.

Maria Falck (Support Class)

Born in Germany, this specialist excels in supporting the team in terms of health. Her unique gadget is the S21 Syrette Pistol which can heal wounded teammates from a safe distance. She also possesses a passive ability named “Combat Surgeon” that lets her heal wounded teammates to their full health.

Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky (Engineer Class)

The Russian specialist contributes to the battle using sentry guns. He boasts the SG-36 Sentry Gun which is an auto turret. His passive ability “Sentry Operator” allows the sentry guns in the vicinity to be more effective. However, nothing has been revealed about its ammo capacity or lethality.

While the Specialists Class system is completely new to the Battlefield series, it’s very similar to the Class system that the previous games featured. While the feedback from the community suggests this will be a very welcome addition to the game, we can only wait and see what changes this particular system can bring into a large-scale game that is Battlefield 2042.
