EA says FIFA 22 had a Record Breaking Launch, Suggests a Possible Name Change for the Franchise

In a recent Press release, EA announced that FIFA 22 had a record breaking launch.

There are a lot of Football fans all around the world and a lot of gamers are also included in this list. But there are not many games out there that can help Football enthusiasts scratch the itch of playing their favorite sports game. The franchise that comes to mind when thinking about Football games is FIFA.

For a long time now FIFA has been the most played Football game in the world. Every year we get a new FIFA game published by EA with minor changes and roster updates. However, millions of gamers are buying and playing the FIFA games each year. The FIFA franchise has been a gold mine for EA for a long time and it seems like that’s not stopping anytime soon.

The latest release in the FIFA franchise is the FIFA 22. EA launched FIFA 22 on October 1st, 2021 so it’s only been a couple of days but it’s already breaking records.

FIFA 22 had Record Breaking Launch:

According to a recent Press Release, FIFA 22 had a massively successful launch. Since the launch of FIFA 22, it already has-

  • 9.1 million players
  • 7.6 million Ultimate Team squads created
  • 460 million matches played

The Press Release also talked about 300 individual licensed partners that give EA access to 17,000+ athletes across 700+ teams, 100 stadiums and 30 leagues around the world. EA also mentioned that it is still investing in partnerships licenses to bring authentic UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, CONMEBOL Libertadores, Premier League, Bundesliga, and LaLiga Santander and other experiences and will continue to do so in the future.

Possible Name Change for the FIFA Franchise:

Towards the end of the Press Release, EA also talked about a possible name change for it’s sports football games. EA is currently in talks with FIFA about the possibilities and licensing of this change.

“As we look ahead, we’re also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA SPORTS football games. This means we’re reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses across the football world.”
