We will be looking at the best skins of our favorite Cyborg Ninja, Genji.
Genji Shimada was a Ninja of the Great Shimada clan who has undergone Cybernetic upgrades giving him superhuman capabilities. He is a DPS hero who has shurikens as his primary weapon. His abilities allow him to deflect projectiles (and some ultimates) with his wakizashi or side sword. Genji’s secondary ability allows him to dash swiftly in any direction damaging any foes in his way using the same short sword. His ultimate ability is Dragonblade where he unleashes the power of the dragons with his huge katana.
Because of Genji’s huge pick-off and flanking potential, synergy with certain heroes as well as potential to unleash game-changing ultimates, he is regarded as one of the best and most popular Damage heroes. He is adored by casual and pro players alike and has a wide assortment of Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Special skins.
Overwatch’s has 6 Seasonal events throughout the year: Summer Games, Lunar New Year, Overwatch Archives, Anniversary, Halloween Terror, and Winter Wonderland. Skins that are unique to an event can only be unboxed from that specific events’ loot box and also be purchasable from the store during the runtime of that event. Earning an event loot box is the same as earning a regular loot box. It just needs to be earned during the ongoing event. Overwatch Anniversary is a unique event where you can purchase skins from all seasonal events. Seasonal skins cost 3x their usual price in their release year.

Top 10 Best Genji skins in Overwatch
With so many skins released for our favorite Cyborg Ninja, we will pick out our top 10 favorite skins. In this list, we will be only listing skins that are available in loot boxes or that can be purchased from the in-game store and won from Challenge events. We will be including the default skins that are always available as well as the skins that are available from Seasonal events as well as limited-time Challenges.
We did not include Overwatch League skins as they require a premium currency called OWL Tokens which need to be purchased or earned in a separate method.
10. Kendoka (Legendary)
At #10 we have the Kendoka skin for Genji which is a Legendary Tier skin and it can be purchased in-game for 1000 credits. However, it is an event skin and is only available for purchase during Summer Games.
Kendo is a Japanese form of fencing using bamboo swords. Practitioners of this sport are known as Kendoka. As the name suggests, Genji is outfitted in Kendoka gear complete with a mask known as the Bogu.
But his weapon on this skin seems like a real-life metal sword, seems Genji isn’t playing fair.
9. Nomad (Legendary)
Genji’s Nomad skin is a Legendary Tier skin. It can be purchased from the in-game store for 1000 credits or opened from any regular loot box.
Nomads are people who travel from place to place and have no permanent home. Genji is clad in an outfit equipped for the nomads of the harsh deserts.
His weapon resembles a Scimitar, a commonly used long sword in Eastern countries.
8. Carbon Fiber (Epic)
Genji’s Carbon Fiber skin is an Epic Tier skin and it can be purchased for 250 credits. It is regular skin and can be purchased at any time from the in-game store or opened from a normal loot box.
This skin is just a recolor of Genji’s Original skin but the reason it is in our top 10 is because of how sleek and stealthy this skin looks and overall suits Genji a lot.
7. Sparrow (Legendary)
Back in the day, Genji was the younger son of Sojiro Shimada, head of the Shimada Clan. He was very carefree and was considered a liability, spending a lot of his time in an Arcade in Hanamura trying to get all the high scores. At some point, his father called him Sparrow as an insult which he later adopted as a nickname.
Sparrow is a Legendary Tier skin and can be purchased for 1000 credits. It is a regular skin and can be purchased at any time or opened from a normal loot box.
He is clad in Ninja garbs and brandishes a straight katana as his weapon.
6. Sentai (Legendary)
Sentai looks like a Power Rangers-themed skin for Genji and all for good reason too. “Sentai” or commonly referred to as “Super Sentai” is the Japanese genre name for Power Rangers.
This skin can be purchased for 1000 credits or opened from a seasonal loot box. It is an event skin meaning that this can be purchased only during Overwatch Anniversary.
Genji is clad in a vibrant green suit with a V on his head resembling the Sentai character “Zero Chan”. His sword has a similar theme along with a cyan glow.
5. Baihu (Legendary)
Baihu or The White Tiger is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations.
It is a Legendary Tier skin and it can be purchased for 1000 credits or opened from a seasonal loot box. It can only be obtained during Lunar New Year.
As the name suggests, it features Genji outfitted as a white tiger with blue accents. He is clad in tough armor and his mask represents the face of the Tiger.
4. Nihon (Epic)
Nihon translates to “the sun’s origin” and is commonly used to refer to the “Land of the rising sun”. Japan was previously called Nihon or Nippon in the seventh century.
It is an Epic Tier skin and it can be purchased for 250 credits. However, it is an event skin and is only available for purchase during Summer Games. It can also be obtained from the seasonal loot box.
Genji is recolored in red and white which are the national colors of Japan.
3. Karasu-Tengu (Legendary)
In the top 3, we have Karasu-Tengu which is a Legendary Tier skin that can be purchased for 1000 credits. However, it is an event skin and is only available for purchase during Halloween Terror.
The Karasu Tengu is a small crow yokai with a large, round head, a small beak, tiny red pupils, and a dark red tokin on his forehead. It is derived from Japanese folklore.
The skin depicts Genji as the Crow-headed spirit complete with feathers and a beak. His katana also is in the same demonic theme.
2. Blackwatch (Legendary)
For the second-best skin, we have Blackwatch Genji. It is a Legendary Tier skin and it can be purchased for 1000 credits. However, it is an event skin and is only available for purchase during Overwatch Archives.
After getting rescued by Mercy and getting Cybernetic upgrades, Genji joined the Overwatch team to help with the cause. At some point he was stationed in Watchpoint Gibraltar as a member of Blackwatch; the covert ops division of Overwatch.
The skin features Genji in a crude state when he newly received his cybernetic implants. Looking more like a mad doctor’s lab experiment, Blackwatch Genji has a metallic theme with red accents.
1. Oni (Legendary)
We have Genji’s Oni skin as the best skin for him. In Japanese folklore, the Oni is a type of demonic creature often of giant size, great strength, and fearful appearance.
It features Genji clad in dark plate armor with red accents and the signature Oni mask. His weapon also comes in the same black and red color theme.
This skin was available during the Nexus challenge in Heroes of the Storm back in 2016 making it one of the oldest skins for the Hero. It was later added to loot boxes and can be earned like a regular Legendary skin.
BONUS: 2018 Pacific All-Stars (Legendary Legacy Skin)
As a Bonus, we have Genji’s 2018 Pacific All-Stars skin. It was introduced to commemorate the 2018 All-Stars tournament in Overwatch League. It was on sale for a limited time in August 2018 for 200 League Tokens. Overwatch league tokens are a premium currency that can either be purchased for cash or earned by watching Overwatch League. Since this skin is not attainable without this premium currency, we did not include it in the main list.
The skin features Genji in a fiery look seemingly spawning from the Molten Core zone in Warcraft. it has some parts of Genji burning red and orange with other parts in gold accents.
His weapons also are in a similar theme with his shurikens resembling burnt rock and his sword burning red hot.
BONUS: Illidan (Blizzcon exclusive)
Illidan Genji is a Blizzcon exclusive skin that was rewarded to players who attended Blizzcon 2019. This skin is modeled after Illidan Stormrage, a character from Blizzard’s popular title: World of Warcraft.
He is shown as a purple Demon with Green energy emitting from him. He also has jade weapons in the form of a sword and a double blade. In Genji’s skin, he has a similar sword and his shurikens show a similar blade pattern.
“There is no sacrifice too great if it brings an end to the Burning Legion.”— Illidan Stormrage
Best Genji skin with the Golden Sword
Of all the skins, the Golden weapon wielded by Bushi Genji looks by far the best. The golden version of the skin is a sleek Katana, with a fully gold blade and a green dragon flowing through it. The hilt is black and white
All the rare Genji skins
The Rare tier of Genji skins costs 75 credits each and are also commonly attainable in loot boxes. They feature basic recolors of the original skin in a single color. Most of the players who are new to the game and like to play Genji will find themselves starting out with purchasing a Rare skin for Genji.
