Best Characters for every Element in Chrono Cross

We sort out the best characters for every Element in Chrono Cross to help you form the most effective party.

Square Enix’s classic JRPG Chrono Cross is back. The game has some great combat, characters, and in-depth magic/ability systems tied to them. Called Elements; six different elements dictate the type of physical elemental attacks and magic attacks a character can perform. However, there are a lot of characters that fight using any of these Elements. This guide lists the best characters for every Element in Chrono Cross.

The six elements in Chrono Cross can be divided into six colors which can easily visualize what the elements represent. They are:

  • Red: Fire
  • Blue: Water, Ice, etc
  • Green: Nature, Air
  • Yellow: Lightning, Electricity, Earth
  • Black: Shadow, Space
  • White: Light, Life

Furthermore, each opposite pair of colors are both their weakness and strength. For example, Red element attacks are strong as well as weaker against Blue. For Green, it is yellow, and for the Black element, it is White. This system makes the combat more unique than other JRPGs and pretty simple to learn.

Now let’s take a look at the best characters suited for each element in Chrono Cross.

Best Characters for Red Element

Draggy

Draggy
credits: Square Enix

Draggy has extremely high defense, stamina, and even attack, making him a prime pick for Red elements. Apart from the ability to endure and give out damage, Draggy can also be used as support, healing & replenishing the stamina of others and himself.

Kid

Kid
credits: Square Enix

Kid is one of the main characters in the game; hence you will get her early. The downside is that she will be unplayable for a large part of the game; unfortunate considering she is the stronger Red user in Chrono Cross. Apart from being a strong fighter, her Pilfer ability lets you bag some neat items for use. And the type of items you get only gets better as the game advances.

Best Characters for Blue Element

Fargo

Fargo
credits: Square Enix

Fargo has high physical damage that combines well with Blue elemental attacks. His stats are focused more on physicality than magic, etc. Additionally, he has the Pillage skill, which steals accessories from enemies. Using it against stronger enemies can get you the best ones, making the stronger enemy battles, i.e., boss fights, easier.

Fargo’s disadvantage is his slow stamina recovery, so you would have to make calculated moves with him.

Leena

Leena
credits: Square Enix

Leena is focused on spells and magic. Evident from the fact that she has high magic damage. Furthermore, she has a valuable list of Tech Skills that grant her various boosts and buffs. One can even revive herself.

Best Characters for Green Element

Karsh

Karsh
credits: Square Enix

Karsh is as strong as he looks. He can dish out enormous damage; combining it with his awesome Tech Skills makes him a nightmare for enemies. Moreover, to seal the deal, he also possesses high health and defense. But you have to keep an eye out for his slow stamina recovery.

Glenn

Glenn
credits: Square Enix

Glenn is not only the best Green Element Character but also can be made the best one in the whole game. He is similar to Karsh in power but has the upper hand because he can dual-wield Einlanzers. His X Slash Tech Skill alone makes him an excellent choice for your party.

Best Characters for Yellow Element

Leah

Leah
credits: Square Enix

Leah combines high physical damage with speed. Like Glenn, she too does have a Dual Tech that is sometimes too powerful. Use her whenever you want to form a part that has generally weaker characters or magic casters. Leah alone can compensate for the lack of attack power. Additionally, make sure to keep good support characters with her because of her lack in Magic Defense.

Norris

Norris Characters Element Chrono Cross
credits: Square Enix

Another heavy-hitting Yellow Element character, Norris, uses guns to deal damage with accuracy. While Leah uses physical attacks using close combat weapons, Norris uses guns. The best part of Norris is that he can obtain the formidable Plasma Pistol from one of Starky’s quests.

Don’t rely on him if you want to use magic. He severely lacks in that department

Best Characters for Black Element

Grobyc

Grobyc Characters Element Chrono Cross
credits: Square Enix

Grobyc is one of the weakest magic users, with very low magic stats and even a small element grid. But his physical stats, HP, and Defense make up for everything lacking for this cyborg assassin. So even though we are putting in the best Black Element character, you will use less of his element abilities and more of his raw strength.

Harle

Harle Characters Element Chrono Cross
credits: Square Enix

Harle is simply the strongest character in Chrono Cross that you can have in your party. She has great stats in almost all aspects. Her abilities can provide game-changing buffs, and she has all the destructive Tech Skills that you need to dominate your opponents.

Best Characters for White Element

Starky

Starky Characters Element Chrono Cross
credits: Square Enix

The alien Starky joins with you in the hopes of understanding humans and finding his way back home. He is not the strongest in the game but still quite powerful, especially early on. He has some strong Tech Skills that do area of effect damage. Nevertheless, you may find it helpful to take up his quest to obtain the Plasma Pistol, which you can later give to Norris. He can use it better.

Serge

Serge
credits: Square Enix

You will most likely always have a White Element Character in your party since Serge is the protagonist of Chrono Cross. Although you can swap him out, we prefer not to, as Serge can equip the most powerful weapon, Mastermune, and perform the strongest attacks. Keep Serge on the frontlines when fighting the toughest of enemies.

Furthermore, Serge also has a powerful set of Single, Double and even Trip Tech Skills, befitting for the hero of Chrono Cross.
